Registering with a PD under GESY?

We have finally registered with GESY and the email they sent us informed us we now have to register with a Personal Doctor. According to their website, you can register with a PD on their website. I have found the details of the doctor I wish to register with but cannot work out how to register. Am I being particularly stupid or am I missing something obvious? Any pointers would be appreciated.

Best to go to the PD of your choice as you both have to sign a document and each keeps a copy (Doctor agreeing to take you on list and Patient agreeing to be on the doctor's list). At the same time you ask to have access to your GESY account on-line and PD gives you a code and you receive a second code by email. Enter these and you're all set to go!

We didn't ask for a code and we were not given one. presumably we can get one later.. But to be honest I am not really that bothered at the moment..

Once you get the full list of GPs you can then filter this list by area. You choose your doctor by pressing the 'button' to the left hand side of the list and submitting by pressing the button at the bottom of the list. You should, within two days get an email telling you that you have been accepted. You then have to go and see the chosen doctor to sign up face to face. That's it. However if your doctor's list is full you should know immediately and you will have to try another doctor.

The code Galexinda detailed is something a lot of doctors don't seem to be giving their new patients. Make sure you ask for your 'Verification' code'. It's a 2 page printout - separate from the registration form that you sign. As mentioned, you will then get a second code automatically by email. Go to into the Beneficiary part of the GESY website using your username and password (assuming you previously registered an account) and select the option to Link your records to your Beneficiary account. Enter the two codes and you are then fully up and running with your online records. Note that the codes last 24 hours only so if you fail to do it in time, you need to ask the doctor to give you another one. And don't forget to have your mobile handy as you will need the one time code to enter the GESY site.

Thanks Jeanne , my doctor thought it was the number on the registration document . Now I know what to ask for next time I see him . I did ask for my verification code , but obviously still learning .

Exactly the same happened to me. There was a code on the right of the doctor registration document which the receptionist assumed was the verification code. Eventually the doctor realised she that she has to print out a completely separate document specifically for this code and that triggers the second code by email.

You can mock as much as you want, but introducing a Nationwide National Health service was bound to have some ups and downs, so far the majority of people I have spoken to, have been very positive, compare that to queuing for hours in the Hospital, or going into a nice modern clinic, and be seen at the time of your appointment, im sure all the kinks will be ironed out.

East of the island - So far so good under the GESY system. So much better than hours in queues as in the past.

As Frankie Howard used to say "You may titter", but the experience I have had over the last few days at the General makes me feel optimistic. From being able to find a car parking space at 11.00hrs, to not having to queue along with 30 other people to get a sticker with a number to see a GP, to not have to pay to see a GP, to being able to find a space to sit near the GP's room, to the orderly access to see the GP, to getting an easy appointment in the X-ray department.I know this is only a small part of the operation of a NHS, but this small part is now less stressful. Long may it last.

Yesterday around the Evangelismos it was packed with cars. Never seen it so busy - not a parking space either side of the road. What a strange turnaround!

I was amazed yesterday how late the Gesy help desk works . They phoned me last night at 7pm to answer a question I had sent them in an email . It must be a mammoth task they have undertaken , and I praise them for the job they are doing .

Yes, all but 2 of the doctors have moved, most to the building next to the Evangelismos. They have taken their 'clientel' and their cars with them. Long may they stay there!

The mistake was to introduce something as radical as GESY across the whole island without first running a trial in a medium sized community (e.g Polis or Pissouri)

Excellent suggestion, even if they had done it District by District eg Nicosia area, that would have been a great idea and then perhaps three months later extend it to Limassol and take it forward from there.

Expect a similar upheaval next June, when the other services become available, but there is plenty of time for preparation to streamline the process, unlike the first stage where so many people had to register onto GESY in the first place and for the lists of Personal Doctors, Laboratories, Pharmacies and Specialist Doctors to be set up.

Galexinda/Mike Strand,
Balderdash, that really would have been a cock-up. How do you 'police' something like that? people would have been travelling toone area to received free health services. How do you pay for it? Who would pay the portion of income tax devoted to GESY. Come on, be realistic, think it through!

Well Varky, they manage to do it with new systems in the UK. As to how they 'police' it I have no knowledge, just that it's a sensible thing to do; Trial it first.

Explain what is meant by 'new systems' please. As far as I am aware, when the UK first set up the NHS it was done nationwide? Maybe part privatisations have done by NHS trust (not very successful if one is led to believe by the those working within it), but not the root service.

I wasn't referring to the UK NHS. An example has been Welfare systems in recent years. They found it unworkable and reverted to the original.
