Abandoned Villages: Zacharia

Nestled on the side of the Stavros tis Psokas valley, it is easy to miss Zacharia. To get to it you have to drive through the nearby ghost village of Melandra, and you might be tempted to end your adventure there. But if you persevere, you will find another abandoned village waiting to tell its tale...

The bricks on the flat roof suppose to hold down plastic sheets in case of wind, if somebody is drying something there. (nuts, figs, grapes etc.)

Another interesting trip into the countryside. Whilst I know Istinjo I am not familiar with Zacharia, so thank you!

Yes, we had only seen it from above previously. There is some sort of picnic site / old tavern next to Melandra, at the top of the hill. You can see a couple of ruins from there, but when I first visited a few years back I just assumed they were part of Melandra. I was surprised how substantial the place was.

I found a photo in my gallery which is the view from Simou village across the valley of Stavros Psokas. One can see Zacharia above the village of Kio.

There are so many abandoned villages off the beaten tracks thanks again Dominic for your blog I find all these incredible interesting but also sad ☹️
