DDay Landings

Apologies if any reference has been posted elsewhere, haven't seen it,

But just wanted to express my thanks and gratitude to all those veterans in the news today, so many of whom made their way over to France for the commemorations, all in their 90th years!

This has been for me an exceptionally moving experience. These men are truly remarkable, concerned only about their comrades who died, pronouncing them as the heroes. They are all heroes, and without their bravery, where would the UK be now? Doesn't bear thinking about.

Thank you, you dear, dear brave men.

Agreed Jacs. Every time I've seen the telly today . . . . I've been bawling like a Baby!!!

Hate it when I can't control my emotions. 😍

My grandad never fought in europe. He was a chindit that fought a worse war than you could ever think. The brave men that fought on the beaches must never be forgot and I owe them my freedom today. So god bless every brave man that stood to make me free today x

I also watched much of the D Day TV coverage. The first day from England, the 2nd (yesterday) in France. With relatives and parents who fought in the 2nd world war, and being a past member of HM Forces, I found parts of it very emotional indeed. What a debt of gratitude I and all British people owe them. I feel we should be incredibly grateful to those who fought and sometimes lost their lives, fighting the enemy by land, sea and air.
We wouldn’t have the freedom we enjoy in the UK today if we had lost the war.

My Dad was in the Royal Navy and seconded to Combined Ops. were he was a Coxwain on a Landing Craft that took American Troops ashore at Omaha Beach. Yes, the British were at Omaha and in the first wave that hit the beach. He never spoke about it much but told my younger sister the one memory that stayed with him was when they opened the ramp and many of the troops on board and some of his crewmates were hit by machine gun fire; the dying calling for their mothers stayed with him till the day he died.

My father was there and I could write every word you have above. When he was dying at home we had a Labrador who sat with him 24 x 7 despite being smacked by Dad when he was delirious "because he was a German". So very sad to see your Dad like this.

How can we forget, Alan and Jim, people of our age can surely never forget those who sacrificed their lives for us all.

It was very poignant. So many people killed from all nations. Lovely to see them all represented
