A public consultation will take place on a new bill amending the current dog law, the Veterinary Services announced on Tuesday.

Starting today and until June 12, 3 pm, citizens will be able to submit opinions, comments and suggestions via email at director@vs.moa.gov.cy

The draft bill can be found at https://www.moa.gov.cy/moa/vs/vs.nsf/Al ... enDocument.

It aims among other to impose tougher penalties for animal abuse.

There are adequate laws already in place , unfortunately they are not enforced.

Cyprus needs to get its Judicial system sorted out first. Once it has a working one of those a lot of the other issues will fall into place.

Very little chance of success unless they change their enforcement regime (or lack of). I know several smaller villages where the local council currently does not collect any dog licence fees - for fear of upsetting the locals most of whom own dogs.

We all know, and lets not kid ourselves,even if more laws are implemented they will NOT be enforced..Does anyone anywhere ever on this island know of anyone who has been fined and paid the fine for keeping a noisy dog.And consider how many dogs are kept as "pets" on the island.

Ours is one of the small villages, we have tried for the last two years to get a licence but all we get is "we haven't decided what to do yet".
Lots of dogs let out to run around every morning.
