Excellent buy for the summer at Lidl..

Post by cyprusmax47 »

As I go many times for picnic to the countryside in summer I was wondering if the Lidl offer for a electric cool box (only 49.90 Euro) was any good as the price was too low for my feeling. I bought a similar box years ago for much more money and it was not really special how it kept the content cool.

Well, Thursday I bought it and when I came home I started testing its functions. As you can run it on mains as well as on 12v car lighter plug-in, I started first to test how long time it takes until it reaches 60c., as you can use it also for keeping food hot. After 1 1/2 hour it reached 55c with was good enough in my opinion. After that I switched to cooling mode and found out that after 1 hour the temperature was 20c lower than my environment temperature at the time (how it was promised)

Friday I used it first time on a picnic tour. I run it before I started my trip on mains for one hour and filled it then up with different food from the fridge. After more than 4 hours in a very hot car, standing in full sunshine, the food was still cool when I started the picnic, WITHOUT having used the 12V cigarette lighter socket.!! After 7 hours, coming back home the leftovers in the fridge were still cool enough not to through them away (liver pate...)

So I was very pleased with this buy, for that price...

Must admit our huge zip up cool bag with the two ice packs in keeps everything nice and cool.

Far better than clogging up the freezer with ice packs and more secure when transporting prepared dishes ie puddings than cool bags too - I'll let you know when I've managed to transport a home made Raspberry Pavlova from Kissonerga to Skouli!
I forgot to mention that when I used it the first time last Friday I forgot to add ice packs (which you should if it is hot summer) but it was still cool enough when I returned after 7 hours, I touched the leftover liver pate....still OK!

Yesterday I used it again for my food presents I took to Simou (this time with 3 ice packs) and when I returned home late afternoon my travel Coke was still ice cold... I am still very pleased with it, except the storage place for the cables is very tight and it takes some time to put them back after using them. (but perhaps it was not designed for a 3-pin plug, but for the flat international ones which need much less space...)
