Today's walk

Post by Anarita John »

Went out this morning as we had various tradespeople visiting this afternoon. Immersion heater went bang last week, water ingress in switch on tank and switch in house, and a suspected leak in the swimming pool.

My pet subject, clearing seaweed from the beaches. The beach next to Penelope's Church is now looking good. Looks as if the hotel is going to open very soon after being closed since the end of November. They have certainly made a better job this year of clearing the seaweed.

Even though the temperature was only 17c and a low 15c when I started my walk, people were making the most of the sun.

The seaweed usually ends up in a field in Geroskipou. However, some today was being dumped near to the Imperial Hotel and Stavros's kiosk. Not a good advert for tourists, especially if it starts to smell.

I have seen kestrels (please correct me if they are not kestrels) on the coast near the old SODAP winery for a long time. Today I was lucky to get a closeup pictures.

And the final picture I got before someone walked underneath them, completely oblivious to the fact they were there.

Good to see lifeguards receiving first aid training before the season starts. Hopefully they will never need to put into practise their training.

I walked as far as Ma Bianca, which is our favourite place to eat at the harbour. They also do lovely coffee, before walking back to Geroskipou Beach, where my car was parked. Again, tourists enjoying the sun and the relatively mild weather compared to the UK and North Europe.
