What a difference a fortnight makes

Post by Anarita John »

We were very lucky with the weather when we arrived in Cyprus at the end of January. We had missed the heavy and almost constant rain that you had for most of the month. There were a few nights when we did not need heat on the house, as the temp had got up to 20c with the doors and windows open. This morning, after having heat on last night, it was a chilly 15c in our lounge, the coldest it has been so far. Below, two pictures taken a couple of weeks ago, when people were using the sunbeds at the hotels and it was quite warm.

Today, only 14c, and a strong westerly wind. Some tourists were still in shorts and tea shirts but locals all wrapped up.

A few people about and quite a few walking the coastal path despite the wind. However, not one person on any of the sunbeds either at the Almyra or Alexander the Great.

There were workers working on the new hotel. I was talking to one of the foremen and he said they expected it to be open by the end of March. However, with the wet weather, I think they are being a bit optimistic. Yesterday there was a crane there, lifting mattresses to the upper levels. They looked really comfortable and have probably been imported as they were in a container.

Unfortunately, Stavros's kiosk was closed so I could not even have a latte. However, I had enjoyed an invigorating walk in the strong wind, and on the way back my coat came off. Going out tonight to Rimini on a daily deal voucher. Isn't life good.

It was really cold here near Chloraka by mid, late afternoon. Very strong wind off the sea.
The weather forecast for next week looks much better.

Good value on the Daily Deal with 50% off. I had the prawn cocktail and the smoked salmon tagliatelle. Both very nice and the bill was only €36 for three starters, three mains, half a carafe of wine and a pint of Keo.

Good insights John, I live here but rarely go down to this part of the coast.

Officially (local Cypriot radio) this has been the worst winter on Cyprus for 28 years, certainly is in my time here, it has been the wettest and coldest for sure, today Sunday a good looking day ahead if the cloud does not move in, it is very cold first thing 6.30AM, off out to the beach soon, it will be muddy but so be it.

No problems with water this year.

Oh and great snaps of Pafos John. ;)

Happy landings John, see you soon.
Jim.

I went late afternoon for my walk. Immersion heater went bang last night. Water ingress in switch on roof and also moisture in switch in hall after all the heavy rain, so had to sort out this morning.
Much calmer, but still cold for Cyprus Only 15c but again felt warm in the sun. Got another week here before we go back for three weeks. We have had cold periods in February before. Last year we had the dust so this cool spell is much better than that.
