Possible problem for Diabetics..

Post by trevnhil »

A month or two ago the Cyprus health service decided that they would move onto a new model of Glucose testing meter for diabetic people.. My wife got one via her prescription book, and indeed a supply of Glucose testing strips..
Like many diabetics she sometimes does a blood test more than once a day.. This means that before the end of two months, the period before seeing the doctor, the supply of glucose strips has run out..
This morning my wife asked me to get some more of the new style strips from the Pharmacist...
But the pharmacist informed me that the government have stopped them stocking the 'New' strips...
And she told me that you can only get them via a government doctor, and that they have been told not to issue a prescription for any 'extra' strips.

So, this is a problem that my wife has the new machine and no strips ???

Type two, but I think all diabetics will use the new glucose / blood testing meter..

As the parent of a type one, may I say, we have never encountered any issues with equipment of any kind here in the UK. Always had the best and latest.

There is no problem with the equipment and I was referring to Cyprus and not the UK.. It is the shortage in the supply of testing strips... I was alerting other diabetics to the problem, and hoping that someone may have found a way around the dilemma..

If you run out of the Cameo strips they are €20 for 50 in a Pharmacy.
That is in Cyprus by the way, just to avoid any confusion with other members.

Suggest you ask Dr Mala for advice she may be able to assist you.

Uncle D.. The information I got was from a Pharmacy.. I was told they don't, and cannot sell the strips for the new machines.. They are Glucosure, not the old Cameo ones you mention..

Rita. Thank you for your suggestion I will pass it on to Hilary, as we do use Dr Mala from time to time.

Austin 7 .. I don't know if you can do that, but I will pass the suggestion on..

You cannot cut strips.

Type 2 diabetics are not ‘normally’ testing blood sugar levels, in the UK out many other countries. Type 1, of course, especially Insulin Injecting....

I am type 2 and indeed need to do fairly regular blood testing, I usually buy my meter and strips from Amazon they are not too expensive, the one-meter I purchased recently was the old reading type, no problem as you can print off conversion chart from the Internet, just to say that last week at the General Hospital that they ran out of all things Metformin, how and why I have no idea, the hospital is turning into a right shamble,

This is just one of many you can purchase from Amazon UK including test strips.

The problem is that it is not Cameo sticks that can be used in the New Machines supplied by the General Pharmacy.
