Flu Jabs..

Post by trevnhil »

Just to remind holders of a medical card that they can have free flu jabs at the General Hospital..
I happened to be there yesterday for tablets from the Pharmacy, so I got my flu jab during the same visit. There were abut 4 people in front of me so it took about 5 minutes..

This has already been posted on another thread, twice, in fact, a reminder to those who are going for the flu jab, the surgery closes at 10am for a break, so go before if possible or you may have a long wait, not sure at all when they open after their coffee time.

Thanks for the heads up on this one Trev.

Although I was at the Gen. on Tuesday the thought of getting a jab was not on my mind. Called in there around 11:00 today whilst on my travels and in and out in 5 minutes. Felt a little prick mind you.

Is the flu jab the one that covers the new strains of flu or just the old run of the mill one?

How will the flu jab be administered now. :?

I've always had it done at General Hospital.

Will it be a referral from GP or what!!

Well no one is forcing you to Austin!

Will someone tell me please what supporting docs you need to show to get this flu jab done done. In the past I just took my hospital white card.
Do I need a referral from my GESY GP?
Thanks for any info on this.

May be this service will be provided by GESY pharmacists and you go to them direct?

Even if this is withdrawn I seem to recall that going to a local pharmacy and having the jab there was only about €7.50.
They even offered me the loaded syringe to take away and do it myself!

People of a certain age should consider having the Flu jab, getting flu may save you a stay in hospital or worse, to call it poison is stupid remark if you get flu at an older age it could be very serious, I am now 72 and I will again be getting this inoculation in the knowledge that something will eventually get you. Good health,
Jim.

Please COULD SOMEONE TELL ME what documents are necessary if you want to get the flu jab at the General Hospital, please?
Like HIC I also take plenty of Vit C and eat both fresh fruit and vegetables, but I still have a flu jab which seems to help me avoid the flu!

Yes Dee, you only need your Medical card and your left arm! no need to go to the Hospital Registration, the entrance door is on the left hand side of the passage to the other departments, just knock on the door if nobody is waiting.

Glad you have been lucky to avoid flu, I had a seven weeker some years ago and survived, you will be saving the local Health Service a few euros, that cannot be a bad thing, do stay well Austin though.

So, you are saying, since the introduction of GESY, getting a flu jab procedure
is the same as before. No need to get referral from GP! Just walk in with medical card.

When (approximately) will the flu jabs be available this year?

As with many things it is up to the individual to decide whether to have a flu jab.

Not for me, but happy to tell other people cost and places they can have it done.

I think it starts to be available about October.

.... but does anyone actually know how it will be done this year,
since the inception of GESY.

Will it be by GP referral, or at a pharmacy or just pop into General
Hospital with medical card and innoculation card??

PS

Thanks for all the other info on the dos & donts
about getting flu jab.
