Anyone interested in Parrot Sitting?

Post by Mandyr »

Is there anyone out there that has knowledge of looking after a parrot? We have a spoilt African grey but owing to our friends returning to the UK we don’t now have anyone that could look after her if and when we go away. I let her out of the cage when I clean it to have a little fly about as her wings are not clipped. We live in Peyia near the little white church so it would be handy if anyone that is interested lives nearby.

True Story, about thirty years ago, some South African friends of ours asked us if we would look after their Parrot while they went back to SA for a holiday for a month, we agreed so they brought it to us in a massive cage, knowing how much they loved it, I put a little padlock on the cage fearing my kids, might let it out, on their return I borrowed my neighbours twin truck, put the cage in the back and drove to their house some twenty minutes away, got to their house , when I went to the cage to my horror the parrot was lying in the bottom of the cage , stone dead with quite a few feathers missing, the trip had given the old boy a heart attack it seems,,,, our friendship didn't last long after that.

Ha ha! Although not really funny I know. I'd say yes like a shot but I have 3 house cats and feed another 15/20 ferals who tend to wander in and out at feeding time! Not the best ambience for a parrot. Hope you find a solution x

I thought it was quite impressive that we had a parrot sitter in the directory.

I only added them a few days ago too.

One of the pet shops might do it, or the vet!

I personally can highly recommend the Parrot sitter listed in the directory on here, I know they have studied, worked and trained with Parrots for years and also has a regular client base of very satisfied repeat regular customers in Paphos.

If you really care for your beautiful pet and want to come home from your holidays to a health happy bird, I would strongly advise against using any pet shops or animal shelters these have really no knowledge experience or do they really care about anything of your pet except being paid.

Parrots are sensitive intelligent birds and really do need careful well balanced care and regular daily human interaction and really must not to be left stuck in a cage in the corner of a shop, or in a veterinary shelter, as suggested by some on here with very little understanding of Parrots, my best advice is to use a skilled expert carer who understands the diet and needs and who can give proper care and interaction to your pet, or you may suffer the consequences.

Distance should not be an issue, proper care and treatment of one of these lovely clever birds your bird should be your top priority.

Call or email the listed sitter on this site I am certain you wont regret it....

Thanks all for your help, I’ll certainly contact the sitter on the forum. Talafire you are so right, they are highly intelligent, sensitive and do need company. Anything we eat she has to try too, like toast with marmalade for her breakfast plus samples of our food too!!! She also loves a drop of tea and bashes her cage if we are late in giving her a drop!!! That’s only the tip of the iceberg so again thanks for your comments

If you do get stuck you could always ask at Paphos Zoo where they keep a lot of different birds, including parrots. Might even come back riding its own little bike!

Hi Zazu and Friends here! Professional parrot sitter in cyprus for the past 6 years.
Owner, trainer and lover of birds. They are my passion and I always create unqiue caring bonds with any parrot in my care.
I provide a well balanced healthy nutritional diet, socialising outside of the cage, and the best head tickles in cyprus!
I have a page you can view me anf my other happy clients in picture and video! facebook.com/zazuandfriends
I recommend paphiakos 100% for cats and dogs.
The zoo please never!
As for petshops your risk disease from other birds in their care and a stressful loud enviroment.
I spend all my day at home with your bird, giving them love and attention they need in a quiet enviroment where they can rest easy without stress.
97750252 is my number. I am happy to meet with you and your baby to discuss my care and passion.

Many thanks
Kirsty of zazu and friends parrot sitting

Hi, I have the most amazing pet sitter who specialises in birds and parrots. As a parrot owner, our African Grey is also very spoiled and I would not leave her with anyone without knowledge of parrot due to the fact that they needs lots of company and stimulation. Kirsty can do morecwith our African Grey than we coukd ever do ourselves as she is a parrot trainer and also a trainee vetinary nurse. You won't find better 😊😊😊. Her name is Kirsty and her contact is 97750252.
