I would much rather the developments were within cities than encroaching the Akamas etc.

Oh NO!! This is the beginning of the downturn of Paphos as we know it. We hated it when we sailed along the Spanish coast and all we could see was massive skyscraper tower blocks all along the coast-SPOILT>

Let us all hope that this is just a one off.

Unfortunately, it was probably inevitable following on from what's been happening in Limassol!

The last sentence in the original article is.............
We understand that ten applications for high-rise developments in Paphos have been submitted and that more are expected.

Unfortunately we live next to this field. We were always a bit worried that eventually an hotel or some villas would be built on it but never, ever thought it would be two tower blocks. Completely out of keeping with the surroundings.

Well we have had a good 30 years and will probably sell up if this goes ahead.

I would be selling right now, if that's the way you feel about it... Once that development starts, how long will it take to complete it given the Cyprus attitude towards meeting deadlines?

We shall wait a bit and hope that it takes as long as the marina to get off the ground.

How awful. Limassol and Nicosia are working ( business) towns. Paphos was supposed to be a quiet town which depends on tourism. But turning it into a another souless place full of high rises will ruin its character. Will there be enough demand for luxury apartments, or will they just stsnd as an empty eyesore blocking the view for all those living behind them? Do we need any more shops when so many are unused and empty?
Oh the sheer greed of the developers! Will they stop before all the coasts are covered with hideous concrete constructions and the tourists have moved on elsewhere, where the beaches are sandy and the seas are safer....

Given that there is a huge business park planned for Geroskipou, I think there will certainly be a demand.

In case of fire/or rescue in a high rise, does Paphos or Cyprus have a height vehicle?

Yes - see HERE

32 metre hydraulic platform, which will probably only reach floor 8.

20 stories is around 60mts high & there are several hydraulic platforms on the market that will easily reach this height. The only problem is that Paphos Municipality will have to dip into its coffers & buy one & they are not cheap! Have they considered this ……….. who knows?

However, I did read somewhere recently (can't remember where though) that a project for a 197mt building has been put on the table. Unfortunately, there is no hydraulic platform in the world that will reach this height or anywhere near it!

The 197m building is going to be on the Debenhams sea front store in Limassol, this will tower above the Oval block nearby which is 75m tall.

I hope that all the high rise blocks where are planned are built to withstand a major earthquake will have proper foundations. Just because we haven’t had a big one for a while doesn’t mean that it mightn’t happen again. Just imagne what would happen if one did.

They build in SAN Francisco on faults. Some have movable foundations where the entire building rests on pivots able to absorb shocks.
