Re: Haggis
I've never tried Haggis either - I'd give it a go though...Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2017 6:26 pm Article in the Sunday Mail today detailing all the goodies which go into Haggis. Have never tried Haggis...and after what I read today, won't be trying anytime soon. For the unitiated, it's: sheeps liver, lungs and heart, minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices and salt, all encased in the animal's stomach
There again, I love sieftalia...who knows what goes into those
I know what goes into Sheftalia - my friend the local butcher talked me into helping him make 1,000 of them for a wedding many years ago!
Re: Haggis
I prefer the wild Haggis, much more taste. The free-range Haggis are okay but tend to be a bit stringy and the factory raised Haggis are way too tough and tasteless.
Re: Haggis
Correct Hic, the shorter legs helps them climb the hills, it takes a full year to get to the top, by which time the haggis is mature.
The shorter leg becomes a problem going down the hill, and invariably it will roll down, and is often caught.
Hence the phrase "haggis bagging" when by law it can only be caught by a Scot in a kilt.

Re: Haggis
It's true HIC. They can only be bagged in a sheeps stomach, which is stuffed with scotch porridge oats, then it is boiled alive in much the same way as lobster.

Re: Haggis
Some used to be canned, until Nicola Sturgeon deemed them environmentally unfriendly. Anyone eating haggis from a can will in future be branded a sassenach and face deportation.
Hence the reason I am now in Cyprus.
I am a haggis refugee.

It's true Hic, but I hate the stuff!!!
Jackie, Scots law also states, "haggis can only be consumed from a sporran""
Failing that from a sturgeons brain!

Unfortunately the EU environmental regulations will not be binned.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:08 pm
But if Scotland leaves the EU alongside the UK, then EU environmental regulations will surely be binned?
Which means you will be able to return to the country of your birth...and once again eat tinned haggis to your heart's content
They will be canned, which will then be a criminal offence.
I can never return!!

I always wondered what Scotsmen put in their Sporrans, now I know, it's Haggis.

Re: Haggis
I can confirm Kolios have them, as we were there today buying some nice steak.
Surprisingly, I didn't have to fight my way through a queue of people waiting to buy haggis.

Scottish fish and chip shops sell deep fried haggis in batter, followed by deep fried mars bars for dessert!
Yum!
