Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
I believe that we will get some bad weather in Paphos area coming this afternoon... hopefully a lot of rain, what we need so desperately
But a short time later, I am not so sure now ...

It seems very slow to arrive, 15.15 and still dry and sunny intervals. This morning the breeze was coming from a northerly direction, rather than from the SE or SW!

Well, we've just had a dollop of that lovely wet stuff.
Cat came in wet, got dried off, ate and went straight back out into the rain

It is now HEAVY rain here in Chloraka-lovely
All things are possible

Clear sky over Asprokemas Dam at present, where rain is desperately needed!
Unfortunately rain over Chlorakas goes straight to the Med.

Nothing here in Anarita. Cannot believe how warm it is, 23c when we came back from Gabriel's in Kouklia around an hour ago.

Damn it, didn't water the garden with impending rain, may have to now!
Re: Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
I'm guessing you've had rain by now Mark? Even if you haven't the reservoir will definitely benefit as I am sure it must have tipped down in Paphos Forest and the mountains.
I remember in Spring, standing by Foinikas on the banks of the Asprokremmos Reservoir. The sound of the running water was phenomenal. Normally it is really quiet there, but with the river in full flow it was magestic.
Hopefully it will flow a lot longer this year.

Re: Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
When I was about 8 or 9 years old we lived in a Turkish village, in the outskirts of Nicosia, and the whole village headed to the dry river bed one day because "the water was coming". After a short wait, a tidal wave of water went rushing past us. Sadly, a very unhappy donkey was on the wave and must have been caught in the riverbed further up the country. Looking back, I think there must have been a severe storm up in the Troodos for water have come down the river with such intensity.

That's also why you should be careful exploring places like Avakas Gorge after heavy rain.

Re: Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
I measured only 4 mm/m2 (liter) so far from a single downpour at 7 am, but there is more on the way in the afternoon hopefully...

Here, we haven't had anything like the amount of rain that was originally forecast. Though it rained again just now so the garden has been comprehensively watered! I have turned off the irrigation to the garden, for the next few days, hopefully!
I checked the percentages showing the amount of water in the islands reservoirs on the Water Development Dept's website. Only 20.1% full in Asprokremnos and 30% full in the Everitou Dams, before the recent rain.
Will check again tomorrow.

We've had loads in Polemi. There is thunder rolling all around us at the moment, and the rain is still falling.

Three hours of glorious rain over Asprokemas, late according to the forecast, but most welcome.
Even if I did foolishly water the garden earlier....... No fool etc.

Re: Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
So, altogether it was 9 mm/m2 (liter) the whole day yesterday in my place near Tsada Golf. But it looks like a new front is crossing Cyprus this morning with Thunder in the distance. So far we had more in October than last year though where it was zero rain.

Re: Sign of bad weather coming (pics)
On the topic of rain and the Avakas gorge - we noted yesterday that the main car park at the entrance to the valley is no longer reachable as the crossing of the stream has been completely eroded away. It looks like they are in the process of buidling a much sturdier bridge now - lots of buidling material at the site already.
The gorge was stunning as always - and (still) has more water in it than during normal summers - the path is also re-routed at some places, again probably as a result of the heavy rain in winter.
Unlike my photos above suggest the gorge was actually very busy with several dozen people visiting making it sometimes feel like Petra in Jordan
