Last nights storm

Post by Lincoln »

Was anyone else woken by the severity of the storm last night. Looks like neighbours had some minor damage.

Yes it was a bit wild up here in Polemi, kept me awake for a while, no damage to us but a bet there are a few branches or trees down

The biggest problem we have with the wind is that it makes the rain land at 45 degree angles, so wood piles considered safe suddenly get damp.

:D Well we don't have a 45 degree wet wood pile - but we do have a 45 (or so) degree electricity pole and because of its tilt, the cables are droopy and tangle together in strong winds, causing a short circuit and at least one of the three phases to go "pop"! So we went to bed expecting to wake up to another power outage - but we still have full power, yippee!

(AHK have already installed new poles, but it was extremely wet on the day the linemen came to move the cables to the new poles, so we are stuck waiting to be rescheduled, hopefully before Epiphany!)

No damage here, just water level of pool has increased! I am glad that the weather forecast for today - more rain didn't happen! Instead a lovely sunny day which was very welcome!

I don't have time to list all the things that ended up in the pool overnight, but nothing a little clearing up didn't sort. My lovely wife left an empty bucket out and I was astonished how much water there was in there this morning.

I just wish we could have rain without the thunder & lightening. I'm fed up with getting up in the middle of the night to calm one of our dogs down. Poor thing is really terrified of storms & im not good without sleep!☹️️
