Dear All,

We don't know if some of you have noticed it, but there is more and more vandalism with objects and waste of all kinds left abandoned in certain streets. If you take a look at Rue Pyrgou, it's downright dramatic.
Does anyone have a good idea to submit to us to make the mayor aware of this situation which is only getting worse day by day? Thank you

Can't you just take these pictures to the mayor's office with a letter explaining.

Yes, as far as I am aware the Mayor of Chloraka is not a member of this site.

You can find streets with rubbish on them all over if you look, if this is a problem in your area go to the community office in the village and tell them. The Chloraka council are very good if you report it.
I started off with nothing and have most of it left !

On many a number of occasions Chloraka Municipality has cleared this area, only for yet more rubbish to be dumped there the same evening!
Many of the culprits do not even live in the nearby area but drive here either early morning or in the twilight hours to chuck out various items, from furniture to old electrical items to builders debris - who dump it on Saturday afternoons.

Such a shame as a lovely apartment complex directly overlooks this particular area and expensive villas are under construction on the opposite side of the road which makes it even more surprising that proper action hasn't been taken, as this has been an ongoing problem for at least 3 years!

At one stage there were at least 6 green bins for use by the surrounding residences and businesses - but many were removed and others became unusable, hence only the one left which was originally near the kiosk.

We have the same problem up the Konia Valley. People drive up from Paphos and dump their stuff here when there's a more than adequate site in Geroskipou for taking as is Chlorakas.
I don't comprehend how their minds work.

Anticipate the area surrounding Polis Municipality will develop new areas where people will dump their unwanted items as there is a new household collection recycling system within the municipality and many people used to come from outlying areas to use the recycling bins which have been removed.

None of that crap has come out of a “nice shiny car” or it’s owners house. Most fly tippers are usually lazy deadheads to idle to get rid of their old crap in the usual manner, they prefer to dump it in the easiest or most convenient spot costing the least amount of fuel but gets it away from their own doorstep.

It’s very sad that people still think it’s their right to dump there rubbish outside other peoples property/areas when there are now the recycling points

Louise we tried that. Went to the Municipality offices with the photographs shown on this page. The very unhelpful and abrupt women on duty would not even glance at the photographs and said if we reported the issue they would clear it up but we would have to pay for it??
Later that day a very helpful Cypriot lady on hearing about the problem called the Mayor direct.
This morning it has been cleared.
This afternoon its started all over again.
This is a plot of private land that is unfenced. You may have seen on this site that a few years ago a pledge by the Mayor to clean the place up and that plots of this nature that have remained unsold should be fenced off.
Its impossible to appeal to some residents common sense and sense of community spirit. The answer is the investigation and issuing of deterrent fines.

Frustrating indeed, but I think you should keep on reporting it. Ask that kind lady for the mayor's phone number and report again the new mess.

Surprisingly quite a few apartments have been sold in that area over the past 3-4 years which makes it even more disappointing that the new owners have not made an effort to solve the problem. There was not a green bin there originally, so the first step would be to remove it and clean up the area. The second step would be to put a green bin with a lid near the kiosk / Tremithousa tree (an area where there were originally 4 green bins) as people are less likely to dump rubbish near that junction.

At one time in Polemi the council provide a big container-sized 'bin' for villagers to put their large items of rubbish in, like items of furniture etc.. Sadly it is no longer there and it would be good to have it replaced. But I realise the location could be problematic as no one will welcome it near their home.
But surely if there was one in each village then the 'dumpers' would be able to legally put their rubbish in it.
