Reintroducing mandatory use of face masks in certain sectors a possibility
Health authorities in Cyprus are considering the possibility of reintroducing the mandatory use of face masks in certain sectors to contain the alarmingly-rising spread of Covid-19.
This is what Philenews reported on Monday, adding that Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela has already asked experts on coronavirus advising the government to give their views on this promptly.
Specifically, he asked whether the mandatory use should be reintroduced when entering a pharmacy and for all those working in dining and entertainment venues.
Last Friday, the health ministry announced 7,263 Covid infections detected during the past week, while the positivity rate has risen as high as 9.77 per cent. And that 47 Covid patients are receiving treatment at state hospitals.
The only positivity is that Covid patients are currently not displaying more severe symptoms than would have been expected.

Well, as far as I know the positivity rate of 9.77 is the highest in CY this year.... so I did another test, to feel more relaxed.
Last Saturday shopping at Lidl, I was the only one wearing a mask and felt a little bit strange with that situation.

Interesting figures from the Gov website. Cyprus has the highest per 100.000 inhabitants in Europe. Also the vaccination figure for Cyprus are interesting compare with big countries like Germany...

I won't worry unless the hospitals start filling up again.

If there is an increased risk being at such places, it follows that somebody who works there will be under even more risk.
As always with these rules, you have to remember that they are dealing with statistics and trends, rather than individual cases. But your question does raise an interesting point. The reason the positivity rate is so high these days is because a greater proportion of those people being tested are in the higher risk of infection category, owing to their employment.
In a similar fashion, the number of people found to like football will increase if you change your interview pool from a random sample to a sample taken outside a football stadium on match day.

I continue wearing my mask when in any crowded indoor spaces. It is something which I have got used to. In my book prevention is better than cure...
At present we have a choice, but with the number of incoming tourists and no health checks at airports, plus most people seem to think the pandemic is over now. Few people are wearing them. So it's unsurprising that there is a huge increase in the number of cases.

Cabinet decides mandatory use of face masks in pharmacies
The Cabinet on Tuesday expressed its concern about the increase of epidemiological indicators as well as about the number of people hospitalized due to Covid-19.
Taking into consideration the above, the Cabinet decided:
As of 30 June 2022 employees and customers of pharmacies, laboratories, as well as people visiting centers for rapid tests must use face masks
It is reminded that the staff and visitors of hospitals, elderly people’s homes, closed structures, medical centers, rehabilitation centers and mass media must wear protective masks.
The use of protective must is recommended in indoor spaces and in crowded areas, particularly by people belonging to the vulnerable groups of the population.
2. As of 30 June, PCR tests will be reduced to 30 instead of 50 euros.
3. As of 4 July the maximum prices of self-tests will be 1.70 euros per piece. It is reminded that the maximum price of a kid of five is 6 euros.
4. All current measures will be extended until 31 July 2022.

2.5 years in Cyprus and we avoided catching covid. Flew back on Saturday (supposed to be Friday but flight cancelled but that is a different story) Did a big shop in Asda on Monday and during Monday night had the first symptoms. Cold, high temperature. Lateral flow shows a positive result. Rosemary still ok but has tested daily just in case. I've got man flu.

Yioula, yes, we are in Penrhyn Bay. I think I probably caught it either at the airport or on the plane. We spent 5 hours at Paphos Airport on Friday and another 5 hours on Saturday as the airport refused to put back the checkin times, even though they knew our flight was delayed. We were all escorted out of the airport and it was very crowded. Luckily, we managed to get back home to Anarita. There were no taxis available but a neighbour came down for us. Other passengers were taken to the Veronica Hotel.
I could also have caught it on Monday, as we did a big shop in Asda and I was surprised at the number of people who were coughing.
Still feeling rough and it hurts to cough. Glad I am an ex smoker. Rosemary still testing negative as is the disabled passenger that we were travelling with.
We even put back having our 4th jab to just over two weeks ago, thinking it would be more effective for our flight.
