Cyprus tax

Post by Mark »

Just had my return for 2011!

The assessment stated I owed several hundred Euro's in back tax, on checking I discovered that instead of the 5% I have paid for many years, the assessment reverted to 20%. Luckily I keep records and the tax office today confirmed their error.

My concern is some people may not keep records, especially from more than 6 years ago.

So do not be too quick to pay any back tax demands without checking first.

Unbelievable that the tax office is 6 years behind!

It does make you wonder how you can finalise someones 'estate' when they die. How difficult is it to get a tax clearance certificate?

Hi Trev,
You need a tax clearance certificate when you sell your house. It only took 3 weeks for us last year and I have been paying tax since 2007.

Yes tax do make mistakes, but it is not too difficult to get them rectified, face to face in the Paphos tax office.
