Robins

Post by aphrodite »

Are robins a rarity in Cyprus? 22 years in Cyprus and only seen one in my garden yesterday and today? :)

We see them every year, perhaps two or three as individuals. We have had two corpses (different years); I don't think cats were responsible as they were intact. So far, this winter, I've seen only one briefly.

Yes we have one, not sure if its the same one everytime we see it, but if you put food and water out you may be lucky.

They are certainly not as common as they are in the UK but we normally see one or two a year.

Fascinating birds. Fiercely territorial.

Robins are regular winter visitors to Cyprus every year.

We have two or three around our house protecting their territory with their unmistakeable clicking.

They come from Russia.

There are lots around this year all across the island. Good numbers around Secret Valley golf course for the last 2 months or so.

Frequently see one or two annually in my plot and out of curiosity after reading this post took a look outside to see one darting amongst the olive branches searching for food. I leave nuts and seeds inside a feeder for the smaller birds.

We usually see them but not this year. The Cyprus robins that we've seen are grey breasted rather than the red breasted ones in the UK.

Those are most likely Black Redstart and not Robin, same family.

Where we have moved to in Polis we have so far seen no Robins. However every day I am putting out seed for all the other birds that come to viist. Two doves come every day as well. Such a pleasure to watch them all feeding.
