Went there in 1969 for the first time it was totally unspoilt , no cars as already mentioned and I was picked up by a fishing boat and taken to my hotel which was an old monastery set on the beach .

My reasons for the post was I am to this day a huge Leonard Cohen fan who lived on the island for many years, in fact they have a Museum to him in his old home on Hydra, I would love to see this..

The late Leonard Cohen, he was more of a poet than a singer, bless him.

A true story, Leonard Cohen walked into a London branch of the ,Bank of Greece, one rainy morning and struck up a conversation with a tanned bank teller who told him about a beautiful, sunny, warm Greek island called Hydra. Based on such flimsy information, Leonard immediately visited a travel agent and booked his ticket.

Some of you might be interested in a photo of self ( that's my arm )
and sister " breakfasting " with Leonard, 2008 or maybe 2009.
I'm useless at this technology.
By the way, up until Nov 2018, the last time I was in Hydra, there was no museum,
just a memorial bench down the coast a bit. The house remained a strictly private
dwelling, still used most years by Adam, and possibly his sister Lorca.
They renamed the street after him, but the sign had already been pinched by the time
we got there, a couple of months later!

If there were a museum, I would nip back over, and say hello to the donkeys again!

What a great story, I never will forget on our first visit we needed some meds, so we stumbled in a pharmacist it was like traveling back in time, everything in glass jars, from then on we always made a point of popping in.

Should have mentioned that Dave Gilmour's " Yes, I have Ghosts " video
was shot on Hydra, immediately before the first lockdown.
Possibly a mixture of Cohen and Pink Floyd, but that can only be a good thing,
in my opinion. Don't expect links from me, but it's well worth checking out on
YouTube, and you get the backing vocals from his daughter Romany as well.

I seem to recall his wife Polly, had written a book about the lifestyle of these Bohemian
types on Hydra in 50s to 70s.

Hydra also figured largely in the last " Trip " series done by Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.

PS - maybe some kind boffin would post Yes, I have Ghosts.
If you don't know it, I'm sure you'll like it. That's all, no more Hydra!
