ELLADOS AVENUE WORKS - DIVERSIONS FROM MONDAY 30 AUGUST

Post by galexinda »

https://talanews.blogspot.com/2021/08/p ... sions.html

...' the construction works for the improvement of Ellados Avenue, start from its northwest side.

Specifically, from next Monday the northerly direction lane, from Paphos to Mesogi, will remain closed from the height of Byzantium Street until 200 meters after Lidl supermarket.

Traffic will be chanelled through Olympus, Vasileos Konstantinou [up past Evangelismos Hospital], Georgiou Nikolaou and Dimokratias streets to the east and via Byzantiou and Alexandrou Papagou streets in the west. The lane heading from Mesogi to Paphos will remain in operation'.

I recognise a couple of the streets mentioned but would be grateful if someone could confirm exactly which section of Ellados Road will be closed for traffic going from Paphos to Mesogi? The article indicates it ends 200 meters after Lidl supermarket - but where does it start?

Well, it looks to me that road work will start just 70 m up from Kolios Butcher Shop and Astra Bank....

The way I see it on the Paphos street map, Ellados avenue will be closed just before the Garden of Edem up to Lidl.

Thank you - it looks as if Byzantiou is the street just below Garden of Eden.

That sounds like it will be difficult getting to the Garden of Edem then :-)

They have a rear entrance and a large covered car parking.
Easy enough to get to, not using Ellados Ave.

That's OK if you can get across to the Lidl road from the Southbound Ellodos Avenue

I know it IS unavoidable, But I predict it will be Chaos. Especially around the Evangelismos Hospital.
It is already difficult getting out onto the dual carriageway..
I think, 'Avoid if at all Possible' will be the thing to do

PS. I have to go from Polemi to Dr Lenia the dentist this week, usually a 30 minute trip !!!

You could always drop down through Trimithousa until you are on the Chloraka road and come at it from below.

I will have a look at the map. But I was thinking of going via the Motorway roundabout, down to the Debenham roundabout and right from there

You'll still have to get across the road then though, won't you?

I was referring to going to Dr Lenia Dentist . In theory, I can go Southe right down Ellados Avenue

You'd be better off by dropping down through Butcher Boy Road for her. There are lots of roadworks on the road with Stephanis as well at the moment.

It would have been good if the municipality had posted a Map showing the roads that are closed

I wonder if they ever do that? Though I remember being told that the Greek press do warn people when/ where new road works will be taking place. But I remember when the sewerage work was being carried out around Paphos town, the first one knew about it was being stuck in a long queue due to the road ahead being closed. There used to be a diversion sign directing traffic away, but after that... nothing! By trial and error I learnt to get around Paphos using side streets!

As you say Dee, they are good at putting a sign up with an arrow on it and the word DIVERSION. But then quite often there are no other signs at all.
By the way, I have tried 2 good map sites, and asked google but have yet to find Byzantium Street.

I did too Trev but think I have found it now, it’s spelt Vizantiou and is the one before Garden of Eden comping up the hill.

I am not going out anywhere today, but is there any word on how the roadworks/diversions are doing?
I was hoping that where Northbound traffic is diverted past the Evangelismos and onto the dual carriageway, that one lane of the dual carriageway would be coned off. This would allow traffic to get out and merge near or on the roundabout
