UK Passport Expiry Dates

Post by Jimgward »

Now, you need at least 6 months, before travel, due to Brexit, if travelling in the EU. …. wonderful.

Checked my passport on this site, my passport expirer date in it is November 2029.

According to this site it will expire in May 2029, I only got the new passport in November 2019.

So where has the 7 months gone before the November date!

So a 10 year passport is not for 10 years then!!

Aye... very droll...

The point is that a 10-year passport is now 9.5 years at best. It also means many people are turning up at airports and being turned away if less than 6 months active. That ain't no laughing matter!

IF people had this brought to their attention properly, and there wasn't a 3-month backlog in getting passports, maybe it wouldn't matter ...

It was brought up my attention a long time ago and I also didn’t have to wait 3 months for my passport renewal.

The extra months added to your passport when it was renewed are now lost.
My passport is April 12 - July 22 but luckily not going anywhere as I CANT use it after 31st Aug.
Think alot might be caught out by this

I lost 11 months on my new passport as my previous passport was full and I had to renew it early. Yes, people will get caught out especially if they aren't frequent travellers, not something to laugh about especially when they lose their hard earned holidays.

Why has it become such, that they arch Brexiteers, are the ones mocking this happening? I didn’t say it was purely a Brexit consequence, simply a fact of what it is., The issue is the lack of knowledge of this. I wasn’t aware and I am sure millions of others don’t, with no travel for a year or two

The addition of the extra months onto your passport if you renewed it prior to the expiry date was removed in September 2018.

If your passport was renewed before that date, any extra months are no longer valid and the expiry date becomes 10yrs from the date of issue and not the expiry date displayed on the passport.

What has made a big impact is the Validity Date - because the rule now since Brexit came to fruition is for EU travel and some other countries require your passport to have a full 6 months "life" from the date your holiday ends.

Therefore, it's reduced the travel lifetime of your passport to 9yrs and 6mths.

Simple, eh 🤐
