HRH Prince Philip has died.

Post by Dominic »

This from the official Royal Family twitter account, 5 minutes ago:

It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

RIP.

How very sad. I know it sounds a bit daft but I was hoping he actually made it to 100. Awful for the Queen, losing her husband of so many years.

Very sad to hear this. He was a GREAT man who made it from a very tough upbringing to where he got to in life.

I heard the sad news about Prince Philip while watching a BBC programme which was interrupted.
Sad news, was hoping that he would make it to his 100th birthday.
I feel very sorry for our Queen who will miss him terribly.
He was a great character! I remember his remark about people with slitty eyes which he made while visiting China! Which didn't go down very well...

41 gun salutes for HRH the Duke of Edinburgh across the UK today. He was the epitome of the notion of 'service' and will be sorely missed by his family and a sizeable portion of the populations of the Commonwealth, RIP.

He showed up younger royals, with his work ethic and while controversial at times, I found him amusing. A great innings.

Such a shame he did not reach his 100th Birthday, but he was able to spend the last year with the Queen at Windsor Castle shielding, if it wasn’t for Covid, the Queen would of carried out her duties for the Crown

RIP Sir

I thought it a very good funeral with some interesting sounds. Nice to hear the Russian choral piece and I liked the idea that the Archbishop of Canterbury has no jurisdiction there and he even muffed one word in a reading.

All in all, a good send off.

I watched the funeral on BBC. Well presented as ever. Everything went with military precision and was impressive. I felt so sorry for the poor Queen, so petite, walking stiffly, and then sitting by herself in the pew. She must be feeling devestated.
It was hard to tell from the limited camera action how the chat between Princes William and Harry went. But at least they were walking side by side on their return to the castle. But I imagine that that Harry must realise the adverse effect that his and Megan's much publicised interview while in America has had on his family.

As usual our military did us proud.

I too felt for the Queen, sitting alone in her sorrow, very sad.

I felt sorry for Harry too, no matter what has gone on, (and non of us will ever know the truth) he has still lost his grandfather.
