Coronavirus: Tourists to use form if can't send SMS, same restrictions apply (update 3)

Post by Paphos Life »

Tourists will be able to move around without sending an SMS, just with a special form, but they are not exempt from the measures that apply for everyone else, an official within the tourism industry clarified on Tuesday....

The article says that the forms will be supplied to tourists by their hotel or tour operators.
How do those of us who have their own property, and will stay there , obtain a form.

I would have thought if you owned a property you would at least have obtained a Cyprus mobile SIM card at some point.

You will still be subject to the same restrictions. Probably he can print you a Form B, thats if you don't have a mobile with a local sim.

For those connected with a foreign mobile telephony provider, as well as to facilitate those who are not able – for any reason whatsoever – to send a SMS to 8988:
• for Cypriot phone numbers: 80012012
• for foreign numbers: +357 22 285777

The above service shall be available to the citizens from 05:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m., both in Greek and English language. It is noted that the citizens shall be personally responsible for the correctness of the details stated to the operator and shall be held liable for false statement.
Please note that the operator shall only serve mobile phone calls.

'While it is perfectly reasonable to give such an assurance to tourists, because otherwise they would go on holiday somewhere else, this cannot be done in the devious way the government has chosen, so it could carry on imposing different rules on locals.

If tourists can move freely all day long so should the rest of us. All the government has to do is scrap the SMS system which serves no practical purpose – it certainly does not restrict the spread of the virus – for everyone and it will no longer have to think up of ways to fool its citizens'.

What a mess, once again the Govt is trying to impose knee jerk reactions this time on tourists, probably in the vain hope that residents here won't notice...
Apart from anything you can't send SMS to a land line which presumably the 22-285777 number given is.
Just what is the logic in some of the existing measures, such as allowing 8 people at a table outside, yet only 2 people are allowed to go for a walk outside together? Thus stopping the walking groups from meeting and going for walks, in smaller groups if necessary? Masks can be worn to minimise any spread of the virus

Yet locals seem to walk together with no fixed numbers or masks?

• for Cypriot phone numbers: 80012012
• for foreign numbers: +357 22 285777

These telephone numbers are for people to telephone and be put through to a call centre.
It is highlighted that the centre will service calls only from mobile phones, through an automated IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system.
Citizens using this system for movements by way of exception, will be receiving a relevant reply through text message (SMS) on their mobile phones.
