It is ever such a strange creature which one can see occasionally somewhere in the garden. Yesterday I was able to photograph one walking on my patio. It only got my attention when I was feeding lizards with some German sausage pieces which they ignored because this unusual larvae, moving around, was much more interesting for them. As it was also windy it overturned with every gust.
here just after it overturned
and now one can see the larvae walking outside its shell..

Max - These are commonly known as Bagworm Moths. I understand they never develop wings instead they live inside a case made from whatever local material they get to "stick" to them.
Re: First time photographed walking...
They are indeed very strange and will stick to any surface including vertical ones .

The first time I saw one I assumed it was a lump of chewing gum that had got covered in sticks.
