Has anyone seen any news on the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine yet ? Last I read it has not been approved yet .
According to plan Cyprus should have had loads of them by now .

AstraZeneca
Re: AstraZeneca
Early Feb for approval by the EU . Like the U.S. FDA I understand they were unhappy about the accidental issuing of a half measure of the second vaccine jab instead of the full dose even though the results turned out to be more beneficial to the patient . They have unlike the UK asked for the tests to be repeated.
There have been several articles in the U.S. papers by frontline Doctors saying members of the FDA panel should come to their ICU wards and see what the delay means in patient mortality.
Nobody wants another thalidomide mistake but doctors say that there are plenty of controls to stop this happening and the fear is a committee sitting in an ivory tower dotting the i and crossing the t .
The EU committee had originally said it was delaying both Pfizer and Moderna till the German President of the EU told them in no uncertain words to get their finger out or the German equivalent of that phrase .
It looks like the French Sanofi is a non starter and the EU also was to buy a ton of that and now find themselves at the back of the queue for the other vaccines hence the major EU push is now happening in the 4th quarter of this year and well into 2022.
Pity the poor Cypriot lady who was thrown in the deep end as the EU Minister of Health and has found herself perhaps a little of her depth . Big difference procuring for a small island and then to find yourself a few months later buying for 485 Million people. Let’s hope she’s not thrown to the wolves.

Re: AstraZeneca
The AZn vaccine is half-dose then full dose
The EU holdup, compared to UK, is because the UK agreed to NOT have any clauses where the pharma is held accountable. The EU have been negotiating the opposite, so more expensive than UK paid, but longer-term perhaps safer.

Side deals being done by everyone , quite rightly in a pandemic environment . You want it here are the terms is the way the pharmaceutical companies can and do operate .

Re: AstraZeneca
Last night I read a news item on 'In Cyprus', that said Cyprus had signed a big order for Pfizer jab. So they placed 2 big orders in a short space of time!
The article also said that with plenty of vaccine they hoped to be able to vaccinate the whole population here by Sept 21. Actually if they are going to start encouraging tourists here in March, they need to get all the old vulnerable people in the population here vaccinated by then.
As once we start admitting tourists probably cases of covid will be coming with them. With the Uk only giving 2nd doses after 12 weeks, how many of them will have completed their 2nd jab.
