Berengaria Hotel

Post by Dominic »

This Halloween, we decided to visit a spooky abandoned hotel in the Troodos Mountains. The Berengaria Hotel has a colourful history, and is a bit of a tourist attraction these days. So lets take a wander...

I would think the building was being renovated before some crisis stopped it in it's tracks. The temporary roof is hardly likely to have been put in place without good cause and the fact that the walls had been stripped of plaster and no evidence of the rubble means not looters. Surely folk in The Troodos would know what's gone on over the years?

A fabulous hotel in its day, Mr Kokkalos was evidently a man of vision, such a shame to see it in its present state

Good to see the place again. Quite some work has been done since I was there some years ago. Did you see the hugging trees near the hotel?

After searching at youtube I found this video, showing indoor images how it looked 1931... and there are plans to change the whole place into a Casino.

I don't see any indication of bathrooms in your photos Dominic. I would imagine any fittings would be missing now, but no water or waste pipes coming out of the walls or floor. Any thoughts Dominic?

Isn't the answer in the video posted by cyprusmax47 above? Conversion had started, to turn it into a casino.

To be honest, the reason I didn't take more panoramas for the virtual tour was because the insides looked so uniform. You could see where some internal chimneys had been bricked up, but other than that, it was pretty much bare walls everywhere.
