I think this will put the cat amongst the pigeons

I would think this is an hour's worth of embarrassment to the government

HIC,
I think that you are a bit optimistic if you think this will "put the cat amongst the pigeons". Superficially something might be done but nothing of real effect.

The People caught in the sting should be brought before the courts, and no mercy should be shown if they are found guilty, on a side note, Al Jazeera, are owned by Qatar , Qatar is the main Bank roller of Turkeys Dictator Erdogan, Qatar has five thousand Turkish troops currently in Qatar, and recently gave Turkey fifteen billion dollars so Erdogan can go on his killing sprees around the middle East, paying the wages of hired killers, this sting was called by Turkey to paint Cyprus as a corrupt country, bit rich coming from Turkey, which is on a par with the North Koreans, So I suggest Al Jazeera would be more credible as a news organization if they investigated why Turkey ranks the worst in the World for jailing Journalists, and sits near the bottom of the World for press freedom

What this will do I hope, is to show who (if any) are without involvement in this corruption. Will Prez Nick strongly condemn his MP's involved and take the necessary measures a democratic government should take? I'm not holding my breath!

There is never smoke without fire

House president Demetris Syllouris has now resigned, as has MP Christakis Giovanis

The scheme has been now closed and under investigation

I would imagine the EU have reacted quickly and forced this

In the video, it wa mentioned other countries ( Malta/Latvia ) were complicit in this too so they will be the next exposed

Why doesn't the corruption in the UK get under anybody's collars here? Jim posted about that and nobody cared.

Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit exposes how a convicted criminal might obtain a European passport in Cyprus - for the right price. Undercover reporters reveal a two-track citizenship by investment scheme, where “problematic” applicants pay more money. The investigation leads to the highest offices of the Cypriot state, where we are given the blueprint on how to bypass the rules.
When confronted with evidence, all involved denied wrongdoing. They claimed that they had suspicions of the undercover team, that they supported and made a report against the journalists to the Cyprus’ anti-money laundering unit.

It's worth reading the comments below the YouTube video too.....

It's absolutely disgusting and the British run company behind it, where are those two people now.... I don't think it's a company in UK but based in Cyprus.

With a Cypriot passport with a false name somewhere in the world? :-)

Former House president Demetris Syllouris, who resigned amid a cash for passports scandal, will be granted full benefits, including a car and security detail, it emerged on Friday.

Syllouris was forced to resign on Thursday following an undercover video showing him offering to help a Chinese businessman with a criminal record secure citizenship.

Reports on Friday said that despite the humiliation from the resignation, Syllouris, 67, would be getting a golden handshake in the region of €100,000 on top of the around €160,000 he received for his term as MP.

Moreover, the former House president will get to keep the service limo – whose expenses will be footed by taxpayers — a security detail, and €3,000 per month for a secretary whom he does not need to employ.

He will also be receiving around €5,000 per month as pension.

Talk bout taking the urine or what !!!

How do you think the everyday "Normal" Cypriots are feeling who are struggling financially with the current circumstances after reading this and watching the video !!

He has not been found guilty of anything at present, if he gets charged and found guilty, his perks will be taken away and there's a good chance he will do time

I agree that he has not been found guilty of anything and, in my opinion, it is probable that he has not actually committed any crime. That, having been said, even if he is found guilty of a misdemeanour or a felony, there is no guarantee that a court would rescind his perquisites.

His only fault was probably just to hide the facts from the public.

And brag about the many other bent applications he had fiddled through the system..... But only if the amount of money that could be made from it was worth it 🤐
