Open MRI scanner

Post by Sadie »

Good morning all
Is anyone aware where there is an ‘open’ MRI scanner, they’re more comfortable for people with extreme claustrophobia like myself
TIA
If you never ask the question, the answer will always be....no

Yes, Iasis Hospital have an 'open' MRI scanner.
I have slight claustrophobia and found that the use of this scanner allowed me limited ,but sufficient, daylight which was better than being in 'tunnel' MRI.

Worth a phone call to Dr George Vorkas who used to work at Iasis and now has his own Radiology Centre as he will be able to discuss your requirements in great depth. Always grateful for the advice he gave me on another type of radiological technique which was undertaken in Athens which had an amazing outcome requiring no further treatment or investigations. Tel: 26 943300 and ask to speak to him direct.

I went to George Vorkas centre and I couldn’t tolerate the MRI machine he has there, so was looking for an open scanner as I am extremely claustrophobic

Have you considered hypnotherapy to cure your claustrophobia - or at least alleviate it sufficiently to enable you to have the MRI scan?
My friend is a fully qualified hypnotherapist, if you are interested I will pm you details.

Which ever one you choose, either Iasis hospital or George Vorkas - both of which I've heard very good reports about - make sure you do not choose the Paphos MRI centre unless you're a masochist - read Google reviews about this place - I wish I had done so.

No it is not joke :-( I was suffering with bad headaches and the doctor recommended after various tablets that I had an MRI scan of my brain to rule out anything serious. I was in the scanner for about 20 minutes, then came out and had a dye injected into my blood stream and went in again for around 15 mins.
Having a Brain scan is not something to joke about :-(
