Lucky they aren't in the Philippines. They would be dead by now.

Not that I'm an expert, but I would imagine the younger generation are the users and the older generation are the drug dealers. With the amount of drugs found together with the hidden cash, there's little doubt they were dealers who, I believe, rarely are users themselves. Scum, and I hope they get long sentences then slung off the island. X

Hear, hear! Hopefully they will be dealt with severely by the court. They deserve it. A long stay in Nicosia Central, which is likely to be far less comfortable that a jail in the UK.

It would be interesting to compare the facilities in Nicosia Jail and one in the UK!

The facilities don't sound too bad:

Yes, but according to what is reported by the local paper the prison is grossly over crowded, and bullying and violent assault by and to some inmates are a problem. There have been a number of suicides among prisoners. Prisoners are crowded into cells, designed for 1 but used for 3 persons, so not a good place to be.

Prison shouldn't be like a holiday camp.... Unless the relevant governments like to see their room allocations always at full quota? The idea is to punish or at least hope a prisoner won't want to go back inside again afterwards - we hope....

I spent a day at Strangeways Prison in Manchester some years ago - just a few weeks before the riot there and it was far too good a place even then! All nicely painted and decorated, half a dozen food choices on the lunchtime menu, a fantastic gym and a recreation hall with a monster viewing screen....

Then they wrecked it and got it all tarted up even more :-(

According to newspaper reports it is very overcrowded.
There is talk of building a new prison facility or a seperate institution for young offenders. In order to keep them away from more hardened criminals.

Well it looks as though they may still be treating prisoners better than the refugees! Anita from Paphos Private Dog Sanctuary is aiming to get supplies to the camp as they are in desperate need of warm clothes and bedding especially.
Whatever you may think about these people landing here, the Government have accepted them and surely should provide them with a certain humane standard.
If you can help then please contact Anita on her web site
