Thumb athritis
Thumb athritis
Does any other members of this forum suffer from basal thumb arthritis.Obviously its due to my advancing years ( nearly 80 ) but fortunately dont have any other form of athritis anywere.Any advice please.
Re: Thumb athritis
See a doc to get a proper diagnosis. Not all arthritis are equal and neither is treatment. It´s e. g. a huge difference whether the reason is gout or rheumatism.
Re: Thumb athritis
Thanks for replying jeba but I did not think you could get gout in your thumb base

Have you been using your thumb a lot recently? ie writing, even excessive use of a computer especially the mouse

Re: Thumb athritis
I have rheumatoid arthritis and it started in my thumbs. For two years or so that was the only pain I experienced - but it then spread everywhere else. First opportunity you have I would see a rheumatologist. If it is caught early enough, as it was with me, the meds work really well and it shouldn't cause too many problems.

I did - and it was so effective I haven't really needed a specialist since. However I believe the Rheumatology Department at the Evangelismos is excellent.
