Ultimately we are animals and are governed by the same population dynamics that affect other species. It isn't just the amount of people that is rising though, it is the length of time that they live. And unfortunately, increased longevity means increased population. If farmers were looking after the human herd on Earth, I would imagine they would be looking at culling the old and the infirm.

So I am bloody thankful that we don't have farmers running us, because I love my Dad, and I am not 100% sure that I would escape the cull either!

So what is the solution? Bumping off the Oldies isn't an option, but reducing childbirth just means that there won't be enough people around to look after the Oldies and maintain the Infrastructure etc.

I'm just glad I don't have to contemplate these kind of decisions. But some people do. Anybody who has to weigh up the cost and benefits of new medications etc, is essentially putting values on human lives, out of necessity. Not the career for me.

In my role as devil, I obviously have no compunctions about culling either animals or humans. I have my ideas as to where I would go about it but I dare not voice them on this forum for fear of being classed as xenophobic or simply bonkers.

In my role as human, I haven't a clue as to how to maintain the balance between those who grow old and those who are more productive.

Unfortunately Hospitals are having to make that decision. Due to the fact that there is a shortage of equipment and beds in the specialist care dept's. So lets us oldies hope and pray that we get the dreaded lurgy.

There are conspiracy theories out there that suggest this 'man made virus' (?) has been created to achieve just that!
Yes, and some people believe the world is flat.

Mind you, a divine being employing a spot of weedkiller could have a ring of truth to it, if you are of the Religious persuasion. Let's face it, there is a track record of that sort of thing in the Old Testament.

So Dominic - You reckon this bloke might be right after all ?

The coronavirus is the result of the sin and malice between great powers but also the fault of humans in general, Morphou Bishop Neophytos has said.

During his sermon last Sunday in Nikitari, which came to light on Friday, the bishop while drawing examples from the life of saints said that it will be very difficult for scientists to find a cure for the coronavirus, which is evolving into a pandemic.

“Because it is the result of sin and malice between the great powers and of our own unrepented sin and malice,” he said.

He also said that the virus is rapidly spreading but in the absence of the necessary medicines doctors and nurses will find themselves at “the most dangerous front line.”

The bishop wondered if these doctors and nurses will treat the numerous patients or isolate them and abandon them as they do in China.

He also said that those who die for Jesus but also for their fellow humans become saints, adding that in the afterlife everyone will be judged according to their actions in this one, “depending on who we gave water to, we fed, we gave compassion to whether they are in prison, or ill, or in hospital, or in foreign lands.”

No, he's completely deluded. 100% without question. If there is an afterlife then an awful lot of religious people are going to be in for a very rude awakening.

Don't get me wrong, I have known some deeply religious people who I respect utterly. One priest I knew from childhood said to me, on seeing my new Girlfriend "Dominic, Dominic, please invite me to the wedding. And if you live together before you get married, invite me around and I will bless the house for you."

Amen to that.
