Plastic lumber for fencing

Post by kansas »

We've noticed a few gardens in our village now have, what the owners refer to, as plastic wooden fences. Without exception the colours are a very light brown and have grooves i.e. resemble decking. However we are told that it's very durable and will outlast conventional wooden fencing.

We're looking into replacing our fencing at some time in the near future and wonder if anyone on this forum could give us the benefit of their knowledge/experience, and might be able to recommend outlets in the Paphos area that sell/install it so we could do some research.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Kansas

Whilst running a business in the Middle East , we constructed and erected and installed quite a few projects using re-cycled Plastic that was made in the general shape and texture of Wood .
The benefits of this and we have long standing Maintenance contracts , was the items never needed treating and painting every year , and if over time became dirty you could wash them down with a jet spray with no adverse effect .
Just to conclude the colour effect for us was guaranteed for 15 years , as it was colour mixed into the materials , so stayed looking good and clean .

Down side , was not so cheap , and being a contractor was always a key point

In the UK now, opposite decking, as it's called, is about 3 x the price of wooden decking, but as stated requires no maintenance, looks great and isn't affected by the sun.
