Interestingly the committee of our apartment complex in Chloraka has just received written notification that the pool must be fenced, licence obtained, provision of lifeguard etc within the next month or the swimming pool will be closed.

Does the same thing apply to hotels?

Interestingly, I saw H in C’s statement which said that ‘most’ hotels have lifeguards on duty when a pool is open. I know one at least who have a board situated near the pool which instructs pool users to in the event of an emergency to contact hotel reception...

Also, I saw recently on line the number of hotels which are actually licensed by the Govt. There were only about 8 in the Paphos and Coral Bay area. Even some hotels which were completed over 20 years ago were shown as having provisional licenses.

So why don’t the local Municipalities tighten up on hotel inspections first, before targeting
Complexes with communal pools?

Another reason why I am so pleased we sold our apartment and are now renting is because the maintenance and upkeep of the complex is dependent on each owner making timely contributions to the communal expenses and funding major projects as and when required. Our pool is rarely used even in the peak months and the area would be put to better use as a garden and relaxation area - not to mention the huge savings on the amounts paid to run the pool.

The complex we used to live on have a life guard, he is an expat who is living there full time, the committee paid for him to go on a lifeguard course and he passed.
