Dodgy Goings on in Paphos

Post by Mirek »

A few shenanigans again in Paphos, looks very brutal

The Cyprus Greens party issued an announcement on Thursday slamming the Paphos Municipality for illegal building at Sodap beach accompanied by relevant photos.
The Paphos municipal authorities, the party states, have removed the rocks to build a canteen “behaving like a voracious business-man”, while to add insult to injury they have poured concrete over a section of the beach.
“This violates the Barcelona protocol on the protection of the Mediterranean coastal region. This has outraged locals but the Municipality is not listening.
“We have tabled the issue for discussion with the House Standing Committee on the Environment.
“The Paphos Municipality is called to answer whether a permit had been obtained before proceeding with the move, and the House also needs to hear the position of the competent departments on the matter,” the statement concluded.

We walked past it a couple of days ago and it does look as though a large section of the beach has gone. A large crane was there on a new concrete base presumably to lift prefabricated sections from the public car park to the newly concreted area.

Will we find out if the council were granted planning and building permission to do this?
It seems all wrong to obstruct what is quite a small, sandy beach with this building. If they had to erect it, pity that they didn’t do it above the beach.

Wonder who's putting up the money to pay for it? Is it going to be a club perhaps...as well as having a restaurant?
