Turkey-north fresh water pipe has burst

An underwater pipeline carrying fresh water from Turkey to the north of the island has burst and could take two months to repair, it emerged on Friday.Turkish Cypriot officials said the pipe, located some 250 metres under the surface of the sea, had burst.They assured that the north had enough water for 10 months....

Two months to repair the pipe...! just as well that it isn't crude oil flowing through it.

Varky....Understand the good will element, but if they have 10 months supply and it only takes 2 months to repair is there any point.

It costs nothing to make the offer and shows good will.

First they have to find the leak and then pull it up off the sea bed which is 250 metres below the surface.
They have to get crane barges hired and into position then get the replacement pipe on station. If it was an oil line they would push a "P.I.G." through it to clear the crude.
The water pipe is 60" if I remember rightly whereas a crude oil line would usually be about 10" or 12".
