A section of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road near Yiolou which collapsed earlier this week will be closed for two months for repair work, the Transport Ministry’s Public Works Department said on Wednesday.
It said that the affected section is from the road’s junction with the Stroumbi-Kathikas road to the junction with the Simou road in the Kouyioukka road.
Traffic to Polis Chrysochous from Paphos will be diverted via the Stroumbi-Kathikas-Droushia-Prdromo road and via to Polemi-Ayios Demetrianos-Lasa-Simou road.
The Public Work’s department apologises for the inconvience and urges the public to comply with the temporary road signs and police instrictions.
The public can be updated on the repair work through the website www.traffic4cyprus.org.cy.

Re: Section of Paphos-Polis road closed for 2 months for repairs
We've been watching that sink for the last few days. It's the same spot it collapsed last year. They really need to do something more substantial, like build a bridge there.
If only there was a motorway already in place, people would be able to use that rather than go all the way through Kathikas and Droushia.

If its closed for 2 months, then one would hope there's going to be a permanent solution this time and not another make-do & mend!

They are lucky that they can use the road from Stroumbi to Kathikas. There has recently been quite a large landslide on that road about 1km from Stroumbi ... It has been cleared though there is still a lot of material high next to the road.. This was last Friday..

Yiolou residents staged a protest this morning against the temporary closure of the collapsed section on the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road next to the community, philenews reports. The community council and the residents that participated in the protest said that the temporary measures that had been decided would cause them unnecessary inconvenience.
According to philenews, Yiolou community council president Stavros Vrachnas said that one of the lanes could remain open to traffic while the Department of Works conducts necessary repairs on the other.
The competent authorities listened to the cries of the locals according to the latest updates, as the Department of Works has accepted the residents’ recommendations and will proceed with the creation of an alternate route in the privately owned land next to the collapsed road while the road is being repaired.
