You are correct of course but I personally wouldnt trust the integrity of insurance companies. You would have recourse in law if you're not able to pay road tax before the 7th January but leaving payment till March may be ok with the government but not neccassarily with the insurance companies. We paid our vehicles road tax on the 7th, 12 months after we paid last year's.

Maybe, but I am seeking motor insurance at the mo & was asked "is the vehicle taxed?" which I presume to mean 'road tax'.

If you were to road tax your car for 6 months only, until end of June
would you get the same period of grace as taxing at beginning of year
ie. until March?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.. I have never heard anyone say that they have got a few months 'grace'
