Read on FB that a couple turned up at Immigration earlier in the week and were duly given their numbers for the interview. Later a group of people came in and started their own list and tried to push in. Not quite an altercation as fortunately one person had taken a photo of the original list on his phone showing his name and others before him and all was soon sorted.

Also reading that people this week are being given dates for their interviews in April. Met a couple of friends who become eligible for MEU3 in July and have advised them to go to make their appointment in May. We became eligible for MEU3 in December and made our appointment in September and had the interview 2 days after we reached the 5 year date - gave us time get all the documents with recent dates. At that time it took 7 weeks to receive MEU3 in the post. By the way, you cannot register for GESY using MEU3 Yellow Slip unless you actually have the Yellow Slip - one person thought the fact he had his interview with immigration was sufficient for him being able to register - not possible.

You can register with gesy with your MEU1 while waiting for MEU3.

Only if you are already in receipt of your state pension and have the S1 OR if you pay into the Cyprus social insurance scheme.

If like me you are under state retirement age, (and are not the dependant of a spouse with the S1) are living on a personal pension or personal savings and have not been employed or self employed in Cyprus then you cannot register with only the MEU1

Galini is correct - many people are now eligible for GESY state healthcare because they retired early or do not meet other criteria purely because they now have the MEU3 Permanent Residence Yellow Slip. Quite a few people who have lived here for several years were eligible for state healthcare prior to the introduction of GESY last May using the Cyprus Medical Card but have had to apply for MEU3 because their original residence papers/stamp in Passport were no longer recognised and have had to wait several months without state healthcare until they received the MEU3 in the post and have had to pay private costs in the meantime.

If you've been here over seven years you can apply for a Cypriot passport and if you're married to a local you can apply after three.
