Bahamas says 2,500 missing after Dorian; prime minister warns death toll to rise "significantly"

Some 2,500 people are still listed as missing in the Bahamas more than a week after Hurricane Dorian pummelled the Caribbean island chain, although that number may include evacuees who fled to shelters, authorities said on Wednesday....

It is shocking to see the damage after the hurricane Dorian left the Bahamas and makes me think that we all should do more, for example less CO2 emissions etc to reduce global warming which is also responsible for more hurricanes, tornadoes, heavy rain, rising sea levels and much more. Another example was yesterdays downpours at Mallorca with 150 l/m2 within one hour....and a lot of damage and that in the first September week! So far we are ever so lucky with the weather here in Cyprus.

So sad as such a beautiful part of the world with lovely people and the after effects of this hurricane not helped by the fact that about 80 per cent of the islands are less than a metre above sea level. Abaco and Grand Bahama, neither much more than 40 feet (12 metres) above sea level at their highest points, are home to 70,000 people.
