Here is another sorry tale of the disorganisation of Gesy at the General Hospital..
Earlier in Summer my wife was recommended by the village doctor to see a consultant at the General Hospital.
As I see different consultants there, so she decided to see one that I use ... Off we went to the Appointments desk and she booked an appointment which was for this morning 11th of September..
Then Gesy came along and you had to have a referral letter to see a consultant, even though you already had an appointment.
So my wife got an appointment to see our GP.. and she got a letter..
This morning the day was here to go to the Hospital and register to see the consultant.. "He is not here" she was told... "You will have to make another appointment"
So, my wife (non too pleased by this time) went to the appointment window, and got an appointment for October...
But of course, she will have to make another appointment to go and see the GP to get another referral letter for the new date, as they only last a month... GRRRRRR...
Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Yes. Still a shambles! We are off very shortly to see our Doctor, (no appointment because non available) to get a referral letter. Just tagging onto morning surgery! I did ask if he would be there and he said he would. So let us see how we get on!
Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
It seems the problem is with the state Hospital, why dont you get an appointment to see a specialist at a Private clinic that is registered with Gesy?
My wife saw our GP on Monday this week, who said she needed a scan, she had this today at a private clinic, and has an appointment for another specialist next month.

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Trev - I have had to see three different specialists and each referral document is for up to 3 visits to see the specialist doctor within 3 months of the referral document being issued by the Personal Doctor. EG Referral letter for Cardiologist issued 1st July is valid until 1st October.
Similar for the other two specialists in that each document is valid for 3 months from the date of issue or 3 visits within that 3 month period.
At top right corner of the Referral Document are three boxes: Referral Number, Issue Date and Expiry Date. At the bottom is a section NOTES with more detailed information.

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
There seems to be a conflict of information.. And I do realise that are, or seem to be right bout the three months validity...
But both the issuing Personal Doctor, and the lady at the Hospital Appointments desk, said the latter was only for one month ....
My wife has yet to check the document.. But if the hospital say it is not valid after a month, even if it is, then it is yet again a difficult situation..

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Perhaps in your wife's case it is A Special Referral from the Personal Doctor which is valid for one activity/examination and 30 days
From GESY website:
For how many visits is the referral to an OS valid?
By a personal doctor – Normal Referral: it is valid for three [3] visits in total and three (3) months, Long-term Referral: it is valid for 12 visits in total and twelve (12) months, Special Referral: it is valid for one acivity/examination and 30 days.
By a specialist doctor - Normal Referral: it is valid for three [3] visits in total and three (3) months, Special Referral: it is valid for one acivity/examination and 30 days.
By a hospital – it is valid for three visits in total to the attending doctor of the beneficiary and three [3] months [GHS 2nd Stage, June 2020].

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Update. Finally was seen at 3.40p.m. Another 5 people still waiting. All told to tag on the end! Got a referral. Blood test papers refused. Specialist has to give them. I said that we were told to get them from him. No, he is phoning them tomorrow to put them straight! (He says)! Two prescription items he says out of stock.Told him not to bother. They are only a few euro's to buy. Roll on December when we can apply for a new Doctor, somewhere else!

Galexinda, thank you for publishing this... My wife will ask for a 3 month one when she goes back for the next one.. There is no cost to all this, but boy, is it some running about..galexinda wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 4:07 pm Perhaps in your wife's case it is A Special Referral from the Personal Doctor which is valid for one activity/examination and 30 days

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
You're welcome Trev - it's bad enough being ill without all this administrative nightmare and having to keep going back and forward between Personal and Specialist Doctors.
Yet to see a Specialist Doctor who will give a referral direct to see another Specialist Doctor as that would not only save stress and petrol but would enable me book the appointment before leaving the hospital (or other place that has a GESY specialist) to see the next Specialist Doctor and therefore get an earlier appointment.
WHL in answer to your suggestion about seeing a Specialist Doctor other than at Paphos Hospital, unfortunately there are sometimes only Specialist Doctors in GESY at the hospital and in one situation, not even a choice of Specialist Doctor (hence I had to wait 4 weeks for one appointment as the Specialist Doctor was on holiday).

Re: Gesy.. Consultants... General Hospital
Well it looks like another trip for me to the hospital in the morning to try to sort this out.
My wife has now looked at her referral letter and as you say Galexinda it IS valid for THREE months and has the dates to and from in the top right hand corner.
So now I have to get the appointments clerk to agree that it WILL be valid in October and WILL be accepted.. If no joy there, then I will try the offices upstairs
