New cycling routes for Paphos

Post by memory man »

The Paphos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company in collaboration with the Cycling Association and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism have announced the completion of the first phase of the new cycling routes in the Paphos district.

Specifically, four new routes will cover mainly the northeast of Paphos and the new cycling routes are aimed to highlight the beautiful countrysides and landscapes that Paphos has to offer.

At the same time, the implementation of the second phase, which includes five routes covering the areas of Peyia, Laona, Chrysochous and Akama, has begun.

Now visitors in the Paphos district can enjoy a more exciting and enhanced cycling experience as part of their Paphos holidays be it for leisure or professional training.

At the same time, the Paphos tourism development company and its partners are implementing a plan to promote these new routes on specialized bicycle promotion channels.

New cycling routes sound a good idea to encourage the sport of cycling. But to me safety issues are paramount. At present cyclists are often forced to go along narrow roads with little room for a combination of pedestrians, cyclists and cars/ vehicles of all sizes, I have seen cyclists on the Emba/Tala bypass which is quite narrow and often busy. Also zigzaging on the sides of the Coral Bay Rd which can be busy with fast moving vehicles. More cycle paths and pedestrian paths are needed in Places which at present don’t have good ones.

When we lived in Cyprus a new cycle lane was built on the Polis to Latchi road. I can't ever remember seeing anyone use it.

It could explain the road widening they've been doing along the B7.

Unfortunately cycling route is not the same as cycle lane. It is just a line in a map.

The cyclist do not appear to be using the existing cycle lanes. They use the road instead. The nice cycle lanes appear to be for decorative purposes.
