Trump's Latest Pearls of Wisdom

I thought your bizarre view was that the ambassador should only communicate verbally.

For a start, how is that any safer than written communication?

Secondly, if he only communicates verbally, there is no record of what is said, so how would any data be maintained by London?

What goes on in London, non of us will ever truly know, even though some posters seems to think that they do. Why would the Ambassador's words need to be maintained about the Trump administration ? I expect one or two on here will know.

Devil, if he hadn't written those words, he would still have a job, so in effect, that was the cause of him no longer being Ambassador, which ever way you spin it.

Correspondence has to be maintained in any business. It isn't anything controversial, just standard practice everywhere.

This is also why meetings have written minutes. So everybody can be sure what was said. If you relied on word of mouth it would be utter chaos.

Obviously Dominic, but I did specify the Trump Administration.

He might also have not felt the need to resign had Johnson shown just an inkling of being a man, and backed him

It’s amazing how the media has moved this into a castigation of the ambassador, rather than the whistleblower. If GCHQ cannot get to the bottom of the leak, then something is far wrong. I cannot imagine that an ambassador’s communications are distributed outside the top echelons of the Firesign office and no. 10. Was Boris foreign office minister when these communications were sent?

No! Those words were written a long time ago and were not the cause of his retirement. Because some person saw fit to publish them, probably illegally, was the cause. I suspect that the 'some person' was politically motivated to discredit the ambassador. Who?

I totally agree that whoever leaked the information has a lot to answer for, who ? we may never know, nor what the motive was.

Some consider my views to be bizarre and eccentric, so be it, but they are my views. I respect all posts whether I agree or not, please afford the same courtesy to mine. Your disagreement does not mean that you are right, nor I.

Did anyone see the Andrew Neil interviews on BBC1 last night (Friday)? Totally and utterly brilliant.

Andrew first grilled (and I mean grilled) Hunt for 30 mins...and then Boris. I don't think I have ever seen an interviewer so ruthlessly focussed on tearing evasive interviewees to shreds and refusing to accept the bland rubbish which politicians typically spout. Neither Hunt nor Boris could argue with conviction, because Andrew Neil had all the facts and figures at his fingertips - something which Boris didn't. Several times Boris was caught out.

Neil took no prisoners and many times he had to remind Boris "to answer the question!". More than once he said to him: "you are here to answer the questions I am asking you, not to answer the questions you would like to be asked".

If other interviewers were as ruthless in pursuit of the truth, politicians would soon realise that can't give the glib, evasive untruths they do.

The programme was hugely entertaining and is well worth a watch on catch-up, if you have the time. I have rarely seen Boris squirm as much as he did last night. And Andrew Neil seriously took him to task for his non-support of the British ambassador.

I watched it Lloyd and it showed what a pair of chancers they are. If they were in the private sector they wouldn't last five minutes. As I've said many times, you reap what you sow.

Yep agreed. Andrew Neil is 'a bit of a one' as we call in Scotland. Don't quite know if it was entertaining Lloyd . . . . . .or cringeworthy? However, I can only hope he made them go home to their beds, chew on a few things, and think long and hard.

Oh Maggie, I relish this sort of programme and found it edge-of-the-seat hugely entertaing...in equal measure to my wife's dislike of politics and who is turned off by televised debate, invariably resulting in her saying "I'm off at bed..."

Fleetingly I feel guilty for her having to resort to that course of action, but the guilt soon passes and I revert to watching debates like this on my own

This is one of those instances where Boris's ignorance and bluff was completely caught out by Andrew Neil who, unlike Boris, had researched and fully understood Gatt 24, Para. C: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/gatt-24-wto-c ... 10172.html

After his ignorance was exposed, Boris was flummoxed and resorted to trying to belittle and ridicule Andrew Neil, who by now had the upper hand.

G*d, I really miss there no longer being any vociferous exponents of Brexit on the forum, to remind us Remainers that we were wrong all along and that Project Fear was a load of nonsense.

Perhaps we should have an amnesty, to invite back all those Brexiters who have walked off in disgust, to come back. I mean, all we have at the moment is poor old Jackie...and she's flagging a bit of late

Lloyd, not flagging, it's just not worth posting my views, when you and the other Chuckle Brother are just waiting to pounce. Too much like a school playground than sensible debate.

Jon
Even the Arch Leaver Liam Fox stated GATT 24 isn't feasible.
Four links for you to choose from which confirms both Boris and Ian Duncan Smith are misleading the people again.

And then we have more of Trumps wisdom in todays press, yet again mouth engaged before brain. I admire the bloke in his business endeavours but for someone who without doubt is an intelligent man and the POTUS but he never seems to think before he tweets something where he has not checked out the facts or obviously been misinformed and once again is racist and quite frankly makes him look completely stupid in the eyes of not just the citizens of the USA but the world stage - is this man ever going to learn or listen.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump offered his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin help in putting out vast wildfires that are raging in Siberia, the Kremlin said late on Wednesday, a move it said Putin took as a sign that battered ties can be restored.
The Kremlin said the two leaders had spoken by phone at Washington’s initiative, hours after Putin ordered the Russian army to help firefighters battle the wildfires.
The fires have spread to around 3 million hectares of mostly remote forest, an area almost the size of Belgium, according to the Federal Forestry Agency, wafting smoke across Siberia and prompting several regions to declare states of emergency.
“The U.S. president offered Russia cooperation in fighting forest fires in Siberia,” the Kremlin statement said.
“President Putin expressed his sincere gratitude for such an attentive attitude and for the offer of help and support.”
Putin told Trump that Moscow would take him up on his offer if necessary, the Kremlin said, adding: “The Russian president took this step from the U.S. president as a sign that in the future we can restore full-scale ties between our two countries.”
Russia has long been keen to try to start rebuilding battered U.S.-Russia relations, which remain strained by everything from Syria to Ukraine and allegations of Russian interference in U.S. politics, which Moscow denies.
The two leaders agreed to continue their contacts over the phone and in face-to-face meetings, the Kremlin said.
The White House confirmed the two men had spoken by phone and said they had discussed the wildfires as well as trade between their two nations.

Clearly Trump will once more be looking to Russia for assistance in the forthcoming presidential election
