Good news for some in Italy . The retirement age will also be lowered from 67 to 62 for millions of people who have paid into the Italian pension system for at least 38 years.

Hardly stepped aside or caved in, just found a compromise that the EU and Italian Government could live with. HIC - you always try to spin a story to suit your own position which is the EU is the fantastic benevolent regime, they reduced their budget by 9B Euros a drop in the ocean to an economy the size of Italy. Yes the EU has gained a bit of ground and Italy conceded a bit of ground but surely this was a negotiated compromise and not Italy throwing up the white flag.

Not for German pensioners who still can retire at 67 only (increase likely) and might have to pay for that gift via ECB policies designed to keep Italy (and others) afloat
