The Banana Republic of Great Britain

Post by Jimgward »

A firm that was set up by a former secretary of Baroness Mone has been awarded a £122 million contract to supply PPE to the NHS – just 44 days after it was set up.

PPE Medpro was started by Anthony Page on the day he quit as the secretary of the company that deals with the Tory peer’s “brand”, a Mirror investigation has revealed.

Just 44 days later it had won a Department of Health contract – not advertised to other bidders – to supply 25 million gowns for health workers.

Jolyon Maugham of The Good Law Project, told the Mirror: “Another hugely lucrative PPE contract has been awarded to a firm with no obvious qualification beyond links to very substantial donors to the Conservative Party.”

No role or involvement
A spokeswoman for Baroness Mone said: “Baroness Mone has no comment as she has no role or involvement in PPE Medpro.

“Mr Barrowman is also not involved in the company PPE Medpro and is not a Director or Shareholder.”

Mr Barrowman confirmed that Anthony Page and Voirrey Coole are directors of Knox House Trust, which “provides Corporate Services and Trust Services to hundreds of clients”.

Or, how about a hundreds of millions of pound contract for PPE to a ‘digital marketing company’ - supplied coveralls at over £800 a time!

Yet Boris would have people believe his ‘emergency powers’ makes this OK

Government overturns measures aiming to guarantee UK food standards in new law
UK NewsPublished: 9 hours agoLast Updated: 8 hours ago
Peers had made the change to block the import of foodstuffs produced abroad with lower animal welfare standards.

MPs have overturned measures aimed at protecting UK food standards in future trade deals, despite a Tory backlash in the Commons.

They voted 332 votes to 279, majority 53, to disagree with a House of Lords amendment to the Agriculture Bill which would have required agricultural and food imports to meet domestic standards.

Peers had made the change to block the import of foodstuffs produced abroad with lower animal welfare standards, amid warnings over chlorinated chicken or hormone-treated beef entering the UK market from the US.

Several Conservative MPs also outlined their support for the Lords amendment, with the division list showing 14 rebelled in an attempt to retain it – including former environment secretary Theresa Villiers and Scottish Conservative Party leader Douglas Ross.

But it was stripped from the Bill following a vote on Monday.

I cannot recall ANY government in power, who abused it, like this one has, or who would have made such a cock-up of dealing with a Pandemic.
