British Figures Adjusted

Post by Dominic »

There was a thread that was talking about the British Death Rate. Can't find it now, but I see the UK have revised their reporting method:

4076 new cases and 4419 new deaths in the United Kingdom "Public Health England (PHE) has developed a new method of reporting daily COVID-19 deaths, to give a more complete number of those who have died from the virus. For the first time from today, Wednesday 29 April 2020, the government’s daily figure will include deaths that have occurred in all settings where there has been a positive COVID-19 test, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community. Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales already report out-of-hospital deaths. Today’s figures have been revised retrospectively by PHE since the first death on 2 March 2020 to include additional data sources. This will bring the total number of deaths in the UK to 26,097 from 2 March until 28 April, including 765 deaths reported in the 24 hours to 5 pm on 28 April [...]" [source] [source]

I see they ( the UK government) are still being selective with their figures.

In Wales, the northern Betsy Cadwaldyr health board had reported zero deaths for a month because they did not agree with the reporting mechanism. They then suddenly stated that 84 had died, pushing up the figures enormously!
The interesting thing is. This health board has been in special measures for 5 years and is run directly by the Welsh Government and yet refused to use the Government mechanism!
Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day.

Will we ever know the true death rate in the UK from Covid 19.. Many elderly people in old folks home and in care homes will have died without being tested for the virus... The cause of death on the death certificate is not likely to read Covid 19, but more likely Influenza or a similar respiratory illness..

Sky News give a very in depth graph comparing deaths during the CV 19 pandemic and previous years. A spike over the last 3 months shows a leap of 45,000 +.over an average which takes in deaths for cancer, flu and other fatal diseases.
If the 26,000 figure the government is claiming is deducted this leaves a figure of around 19,000 of which 13,000 are listed as deaths in the community according to ONS and are directly attributed to CV 19.
This in turn leaves a disparity of over 6,000 deaths for the seasonal average for which there is no explanation.
The figures are still being under reported.

This winter has been the mildest for many decades and normal seasonal deaths from Pneumonia and Influenza would have been naturally lower than previous - the major cause of winter spikes of deaths.

When we finally account for the purely Covid19 deaths to date, I would tend to look at the FT figures of over a week ago, where they were calculated to be 41,000 - from ONS and hospital figures, using the formulas Jim B refers to. Based on that, we will be heading towards 50,000 Covid deaths, plus many thousands of deaths in the community due to lack of treatment and care during this crisis, for reasons we all know. Truly shocking figures and an investigation on why we are the highest in the world, needs to occur.

I think that the true Number of deaths will be known. But it is difficult to accurately give the cause of death for every person...

I think we can easily say, that the UK CURRENTLY has more deaths than any other country in Europe - even when we are 2 - 4 weeks behind Italy and Spain. That is enough for serious concern.

If you heard the UK press briefing last night they said this :

Elsewhere in Europe, there is no national tally for deaths in care homes in Italy, and in Spain it’s up to each region whether or not they include care homes in their count.

So then with that in mind you can see the UK is not the worst country in Europe.

There are proportionally more elderly in care homes in the UK, than either of those countries.

As the UK has the 3rd largest population in Europe behind Russia and Germany - you can expect us to be in the top 3 at some point!

You can rest assured that the usual suspects on here will be ready to say the UK has the worst everything and is doing the worst etc. etc. Irrespective of facts. Just think of them as cheerleaders, but in reverse.

Reading the Financial Times, it says that some EU countries are NOT counting care home deaths in official figures. Is this still the case?

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Thu Apr 30, 2020 5:13 pm Would you like to dispute the figures then? 500-800 dying a day of Covid...and you think that's a result to be proud of?

Hospices now about to run out of PPE?
Did anyone mention being proud? As usual Lloyd you wallow in the misery of this like a pig wallows in muck, sad really.
