Re: Tax form 2019

A GESY number is surely the same as your MEU1 or 3 and your Driving Licence, or so you'd think! WRONG My MEU3 it's 55012345 (8 digits) GESY it's 055012345 (9 digits) Driving Licence it's 5/5012345 (8 digits plus a slash) Quite what is meant by fractional number is a mystery to me. I have to admit I'...

Re: Tax form 2019

What's the Euro/Sterling exchange rate for this year? I have emailed the tax office but, surprise surprise, no reply. Can't get through on the phone either! I used €1.14 for the 2019 return, 2020 payments will be next year. Using the data from the Cyprus Customs & Excise, in 2019 it averaged 1....

I do not use my CC on withdrawals, I agree the cost would be to high, the charge I referred was for debit card cash withdrawal.
I don't have a NW debit card, just a Gold CC.

Re: UK banks to close many ex-pats accounts after Brexit.

U.K. Banks make considerably more from us than the average UK customer. Ever time I withdraw 400 euros it costs me £10 plus a £1 transaction charge, I pay 2.5% commission every time I use my UK debit card, so the bank (Nationwide) makes hundreds every year. What would happen if the less fortunate o...

Re: UK banks to close many ex-pats accounts after Brexit.

Barclays closed accounts held in Cyprus & Spain about 2 years ago, so quite why Jim has managed to hold on to his is a mystery! About a year or more ago Barclays threatened to cut my CC, but I then received a letter saying you can keep it if you can provide a UK address such as perhaps a son or ...

Re: The GESY abuse by doctors

The article wasn't pointing the finger at all doctors, but clearly there are some who they imported, when GESY couldn't find enough local doctors willing to join.

There is a minimum speed limit of 65 on motorways here
Tell that to the excavator drivers who are seen frequently blocking the left lane/hard shoulder!

I think it must also be born in mind that many people in the old system were already seeing 'Specialist Consultants' I my self was seeing a heat consultant, a urology consultant and a dermatologist.. Now under the new system I cannot go direct to them, I have to see my GP first, to get a Referral.....

Re: Police efforts to reduce road deaths will see clampdown on speeding in cities

 How ludicrous! So 50kmph does not mean 50 & if you are abiding by the 100kmph on the highways you'll be fined for driving too slow (I made that bit up) . So with such a lax attitude, is it any wonder that people speed in a regardless fashion. Can someone tell me what are the 'passes' avail...

You would think in the old town on a Sunday it would be free all day. WRONG. The one where the buses are, now charges for 4 hours.

As there is also funding from the EU’s post-covid recovery fund available which needs only to be applied and would help also the local businesses to provide installation of PV, air-cons and windows worth E100m. https://cyprus-mail.com/2020/09/15/air-conditioning-to-be-installed-in-schools/ Max In t...
