Re: Ants

WHL you don’t want to kill them on the spot, you need them to get the powder on their body then the theory is they take it back to the nest and it should kill off the rest of the nest. I don’t think you ever get totally rid of ants but it keeps them in check quite well. My personal fight this year i...

Re: GESY Prescription

Just back from the Pharmacy and yes I’ve missed out on a months prescription. As I said before doesn’t matter hugely for me as my inhaler lasts for nearly 2 months anyway, but for those on more serious medication ...

Thanks to the opening post for pointing this out!

Re: GESY Prescription

Thanks for this info, I have a three months prescription and didn’t realize I had to present it by a certain time each month so I’ve probably missed my second prescription but will see if Pharmacy will still let me have it, not a big deal for me as it’s just an inhaler which lasts me virtually 2 mon...

Re: Ants

WHL - maybe should have added gave work surfaces a thorough clean when we returned. In the same situation if I hadn’t been going away I would have treat one stretch of work surface at a time and kept all food prep to another area of the kitchen(assuming you have the room to do this of course). I hav...

Re: Ants

Back in UK had ants coming from behind cabinets onto the kitchen worktops (yuk) and was told by someone who worked for a very famous pest control company to spread ant powder down but them brush it very finely over the whole worktop area, the idea is ants won’t walk into a clump of the powder but wi...

Re: Awning

After looking around places specializing in awnings we bought two at Superhome for a fraction of the price, for the villa we rent. Sizes were about 2.5M and 1.5M, can’t remember exact price. Have had them four years now and still going strong.

Never used it, instead every month I put both empty appliances on the hottest wash, in the washing machine I add some bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar, in the dishwasher I use one of the small bottles of dishwasher cleaner by Tesco, available in Alphamega, job done. I also add white vinegar to ...

Re: tricky question?

Have a drive out our way (Mandria). Our village is maybe not what you’re looking for as we do get a number of holiday visitors in summer, plus side of that is we have about six taverna or restaurants to choose from. But there are other nearby villages which might suit ie Timi, Anarita, Achelia (apol...

Re: gated communities in Paphos

No experience of gated communities but re your link to Elea, nothing there apart from the golf course and a show villa and it’s been like that since we arrived four years ago.

I gather the whole development has recently been resold so maybe there will be some new homes built soon

Re: Spate of burglaries In Pahos & Peyia

In reply to hamski we are in Mandria, a village near Paphos airport. Our development had a few break ins last year but I gather police caught the culprits. From reading general posts on the forum seems to me burglaries happen in the main Paphos areas which is where the majority of expats settle and ...

Re: Spate of burglaries In Pahos & Peyia

Would disagree with Kili01 on having a safe. According to the police who attended after our burglary one of the main things burglars are looking for is a safe expecting it to have all your valuables inside. Ours was bolted in but they managed to get the whole thing out causing quite a bit of damage ...

As my username implies I always take the easy option. Bought a robot vac a few months ago, Hoover house right through every day while I have breakfast and read the morning paper ... brilliant!

Re: Cordless vacuum cleaner

We bought a robot vacuum cleaner from Amazon a couple of months ago, best purchase ever. Fully charged it will run for 100 minutes. You can programme it to vacuum while you’re out or asleep, or when the latest storm has knocked the power off, but I set ‘Robovac’ to clean upstairs while I have a leis...

Re: Struggling to find a rental home

Not an inefficient approach at all, it’s a big step moving your life out here, always a good idea to dip your toe in the water first! When we came over we were looking for a long term villa rental in Chloraka, Kissonerga or Tala areas, but we took an apartment in Mandria while we searched, after a c...

Re: Struggling to find a rental home

If you widen your area try visiting Mandria, all houses are within walking distance of the sea and village has some good tavernas, good supermarket nearby etc. or slightly further from the sea but only a few minutes drive is Anarita or Timi. All are near the motorway so access to Paphos is good. How...

Re: Police launch traffic light campaign

Wish they would have a campaign on driving in the correct lane at roundabouts. Once again today, after travelling up the new airport road to the roundabout with the B6 and a taxi cm off my rear bumper, he tried to get past me by using the left hand lane, but could not do so as a twin cab was also i...

Re: Help please! Where can I buy redy made or material to make curtains?

I make my own clothes and knit buying my material or wool online at https://www.minervacrafts.com/ They have an excellent home crafts section too with everything you need to make curtains. All my orders have been received promptly, usually within a week, and their material has always been spot on, I...

Re: TV - Would upgrading internet package help?

We had another trouble free evening last night watching a combination of live tv, catch up and box set so increasing the buffer size seems to have worked for us. If we do have further problems I will bear in mind the number of devices we have connected and in answer to the last post, as far as I am ...

Re: TV - Would upgrading internet package help?

Oh dear, what a can of worms I’ve opened!!! Last night we had an evening indoors viewing so set the buffer to 4, then 5 but experienced fair amount of freezing so went back to 6 at which point we had two or three freezes in the rest of the evening, so for us it would seem 6 is probably a good settin...
