Time flies, the one that damaged Hounds on Holiday, was 19 September 2021. Remember it well, it was a friends birthday and it got very close to their house.

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

Alan, we’ve had a very different experience. Clean the cell once a year - the same way as you but mostly these days the addition of No More Scale keeps this down and last month it just took a couple of mins with the pressure washer to blast away any build up of scale on the cell. Definitely never ha...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

I don't like the smell of chlorin, does a salt water pool still have this smell? It depends on how well maintained the pool is as how heavily used it it. From chemical safety facts.org; “Pool smell is not due to chlorine, but to chloramines, chemical compounds that can form in pool water. Chloramin...

Re: Does Polemi have hard water?

We have a water softener since day 1, wouldn’t be without it. Zero scale on our appliances. Also reverse osmosis filter for the drinking water, not a drop of scale in the kettle in 8 years - total opposite of our other property in Tala.

Both from Q-Water.

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

I wonder where all the sodium goes? The salt? Ultimately nowhere, you never ‘use it up’ (unless you pump out water and replace with fresh). My chemistry is not great but after the salt is converted to chlorine by electrolysis or some such wizardry, I believe it’s then converted back to its original...

Autopilot advice corrosion can occur above 6000 PPM - almost double the recommended max PPM. If that ever happened, dump water and top up.

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

According to Ian's original post it costs €500 to replace. I had always thought that a salt water pool meant that you didn't have to use chlorine. Learn something new every day. If you just have a salt water pool you just have a salty pool. The SWP has a cell with metal blades, titanium I think, th...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

Dee, agree with your views on the water feel. At the correct PPM the salt level is approx 1/3 of a human tear (c9000PPM) which in itself is about 1/4 of seawater (c35000PPM). The advice you were given about not running the pump for long hours in the sun depleting chlorine is a little odd. It’s the s...

Max, they are not not using professional equipment, they are using equipment appropriate for the task and geological conditions. My friend is very well aware of the geology of Cyprus having given many talks and tours on the subject.

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons

We have had a SWP from day 1, so in our 9th summer. The initial cost of the chlorine generator is quite higher but obviously you then save on the cost of chlorine tablets. You’re effectively paying for (most of) your CL up front. Things to consider and decide if they are pros or cons: - the water de...

I have a good friend who is a retired construction geologist, in fact was the lead on the geology aspects of the Jubilee line extension in London, which was one of the most demanding tunnelling projects of recent times. I sent him the link to post him up to date on our local project. Based on his qu...

Re: Water dispenser conundrum

Why can’t you have something plumbed in? We have a filtration system (from Q-Water) which is under the sink and connects to a 3 way tap. If you move tp another rented property, you just reconnect the existing feed and take the filtration system with you.

Thanks for the update - €10 per annum is plenty for me but I will have to pay double now in order to keep the phone number. Same here for Mrs PolemIan. CYTA SoEasy PAYG

FYI, and apologies if this is old news, we’ve just found out in the Cyta shop in the Kings Mall, that the validity periods for PAYG top ups has changed since we last did a top up, so a €10 top is now valid for 6 months rather than 12, and €5 one for 3 months rather than 6. Something to be aware of, ...
