Re: Posting a letter

The reference to "letter" was related to the cost. I did not say that they couldn't do the same for a small parcel.

Re: Posting a letter

A document (5 pages) recently sent to UK via DHL cost €29.88 and was received 2 days later. Registered mail (for a letter) from the PO near Paphos Homemarket costs €2.54 and usually takes about 7-10 days and can be tracked. You don't need to fill a form but the cashier prints a barcoded sticker and ...

Re: Blocked house drains

Sunspot almost has it right. The problem is caused by having square manholes and small pipes. Make sure that your waste pipes are 100mm diameter. Get a builder to put "benching" which forms a channel to direct the flow. This can be plastic, which are usually preformed, or concrete with a c...

Re: Coronavirus: 202 new cases announced (updated)

If you divide the number of positives by the number of tests each day you will find that the positived per thousand tests has rocketed up. Obviously a lot of tests are from contact tracing so you would expect a higher than average positive at the moment. I believe that they woudl be satisfied with 5...

Re: DHL delivery service

To change the subject slightly:

I took a package to their Paphos office at 09.20 on Monday and it was delivered to a UK address at 12.00 the next day.

Fantastic service from DHL!

Presumably the above "moaners" also don't do self check-in and labelling of luggage at airports either.

Cartridge World.

Their own inks work well also, although they never have the right size for my black cartiridge so I have to get the HP one. I have also ordered from them on-line and they deliver to your local (ACS?) courier point

Re: New street lights

They have changed the ones on my street as well but because they are directional and my house is above the lamp the sky is now brilliant. Nebulas and fainter stars are much clearer and some visible with the naked eye.

Really great change so well done to the local council.

Re: Residents relieved as demolition starts on collapsing buildings in Tala

The brown line that you can see in front of the road is the reinforcement for a pile cap. This will join all of the lowere piles together and form a slab that will probably then be buried under the new road, so still a lot of shuttering and concreting to be done yet. At the top of the slope you can ...

Re: Paphos/Polis highway

You don't have to close roads to widen them. Anybody who has driven along a motorway in the UK knows that.

However, it does take thought and planning and probably some delays if one-way traffic is needed.

I guess if you normally pay 19.99 for a seat then 30 is still not bad!

Re: Trying to understand the new rules

Surely the important thing is how many other people are there. If you live in a district, using whichever definition you like, and the place you go to walk has lots of people who are not socially distancing then the thing to do is go somewhere else. The same goes for shops. Just because we are on th...

Re: Experimenting in the garden this year....

When I used to compost back in the UK soil was a definite no-no in compost. All it does is cool the compost down, which is not good for the composting process. Although I guess the temperature here in the summer may add to the process!

Re: Face masks

Regarding home-made masks I was intrigued by how effective they might be as most are made, or the designs are put out, by amateurs, probably without any medical training. Anyway, I have some dust masks of the DIY type that you do see being worn so I went looking for particle sizes. The dust monitori...

Re: what is considered an acceptable distance to travel

I think restricting the distance travelled is to reduce the spread geographically. Should you be a carrier then it is better to travel locally and infect locally because that is one outbreak. If you travel further then there will be a second location which could also be the centre of an outbreak. Th...
