Re: From the British High Commission - new tax laws
As non resident Landlords you should be completing a UK Self Assessment Tax Return, and of course if your rent does not exceed your UK Tax Allowance then there is no tax to pay, but you should still be completing the return. And yes you should also declare your UK rental income on your Cypriot Tax ...

Re: From the British High Commission - new tax laws
That is correct, rental income from a UK property is payable in the UK, it does not matter where you are resident. Hopefully you are registered as a Non Resident Landlord, which means you submit a Self Assessment Tax Return and are not having tax paid by your rental agency at source. Hudswell , We ...

Re: From the British High Commission - new tax laws
This presumably applies if you are a Tax Resident and living in the UK, if you are living in Cyprus, and you are renting a property out here then you should be declaring tax here. Paying tax in the UK on property as a Cypriot Tax resident would only apply to a UK property. We pay tax here on our UK...

Re: Any gardening expert?
It depends where it is in your garden, but we had a huge aloe vera on our front. We kept it wet and scraped the soil away for weeks! We then tied a rope around it and attached to tow bar, slowly pulled away, and it came up, no problems! Otherwise a professional with the big guns!

1. They do hear. They don't care.
2. It doesn't matter whether they have indicators or not. They rarely use them.

Over 80 driving licence
A friend has informed me that his driving licence was refused under "new strict rules" for over 80, because his pulse was found to be erratic on a medical examination. He his due to have his pacemaker changed. I could find nothing on the net pertaining solely to over 80's only the rules fo...

You need to go in and explain! We were told the same but our parents would be over 120 years old! They let it go.

On the link above, Nigel has posted the name and address of the minister responsible. It might be a good idea if everyone affected, wrote a petition and asked for the law to be amended pronto! They seem to love causing stress over silly regulations. If it goes to court it would be great if a sensibl...

Re: New "carrot and stick" proposals to reduce exhaust emissions
I was told by a Cypriot quite a few years back that some of the old timers here have never registered their vehicles, so they don't get reminders to have MOT etc. It might well be an untruth of course! We had a reminder from Nicosia a few days ago that our MOT is due in about 3 weeks. It is true som...

Check this out. It doesn't mention small breaks like a coffee break but they are supposed to give a meal break if you work during a meal time. It depends on what work you are doing. www.misi.gov.cy>dir>dlr.nsf >All

Our neighbour got some stuff from the DIY when he had rats, which were in a block and hammered onto the trunk of the trees. It got rid of the rats and his dog couldn't reach them.

Re: Delivery from Amazon & DHL
I had a large item weighing 25kg lost by DHL. They didn't inform my supplier. After 4 weeks of waiting I contacted my supplier and they investigated. DHL knew it was lost but hadn't informed them. The supplier got a refund. They replaced it via post office parcel which arrived fairly quickly. The do...

Re: Ikea Assembly + Delivery
We went to collect an item, supposed to be flat pack, coming in from Italy, it was already assembled, too big for the car and cost €50 for delivery! The item had to be returned because it was not adjustable, as stated online, so didn't fit! They collected it but we didn't get our delivery charge ref...
